Team leaders have a lot on their plate: not only do they have to skilfully manage the egos, personalities and collective focus of a group of people, they also have a responsibility to their boss to deliver results.

What is the first thing that comes to your mind when you think about branding? Is it just your company’s name? or the logo? Maybe it is the design, colour scheme and packaging?

Women who have an inner circle of close female contacts are more likely to land executive positions with greater authority and higher pay, a 2019 study in the Harvard Business Review found, and we can assume this translates to those of us who are our own bosses; and the benefit a community of professional women surrounding us provides us with.

End of last year, I ran a session for founders on raising early-stage investment.  At the beginning of the session, I asked the audience to walk me through an outline of the stages involved when engaging an investor. One of the responses I received was, ‘you pitch the business…then if there is interest you present and discuss the financial model.’ I then asked a second question. When do you use ‘storytelling’? Several responses came in via messaging, ‘the pitch’. Which is correct, but it is not the only stage where it is used.

Providing access to health services, promoting work-life balance and career progression opportunities, are all steps employers can take to boost employee wellbeing.

As the #MeToo movement has swept over the globe, sometimes it seems to me that we live in the world of angry women and confused men. C-suite staff are the cornerstone of every business, with their decisions accounting for just under half (45%) of overall company performance. Despite the C-suite titles being the most sought-after in business, it can often be an intense and all-consuming position.

Coming from a small, picturesque town of Šibenik on the Croatian Adriatic coast, I was born at a very uncertain time, during the breakup of Yugoslavia and Croatian war for independence. Despite growing up in a traditional conservative family still chained by their outdated values on work ethics and employment, I knew I was destined for great things, and was always innovative, daring, and adventurous, vigorously believing that only the sky is my limit. 

When high-profile new logos launch, if they hit the headlines it’s usually for the wrong reasons. That’s largely down to a general assumption that “branding” is just about one marque, a frustrating misconception for design teams that spend months—often years—on strategy and iteration.

We’ve all had those days. You plough through your to-do list, smashing items off one by one. You get to the end of the day having achieved everything you set out to and yet… you feel awful. You’re probably mentally checking out of tomorrow already. If you have lots of days like this, you’re either heading for burnout, or you’ve already been there and not heeded the lessons.
