PocDoc becomes largest provider of QRISK3 scores outside GP surgeries
PocDoc has become the leading provider of QRISK3 scores in communities, workplaces and homes in the country, highlighting its growing role in cardiovascular disease (CVD) testing.
A QRISK3 score is the clinically recommended tool for assessing the 10-year risk of heart attack or stroke in individuals aged 25 to 84, taking into account factors such as age, gender, medical history, and lifestyle.
PocDoc’s ‘Healthy Heart Check’ is a phone-based test that offers patients their QRISK3 score in addition to a comprehensive cholesterol profile, body mass index (BMI) score, and heart age calculation, through a simple finger-prick test.
Following commissioned partnerships with local NHS bodies in Yorkshire and the Humber, the North East of England, Cambridgeshire and Cumbria, the Healthy Heart Check has been rolled out across multiple regions in the UK. It has also been introduced through national partnerships with UK retail partners, including Well Pharmacy, Pharmacy2u, Superdrug, and Dears Pharmacy.
Prior to the Healthy Heart Check launching, the Endeavour Predict CIC and PocDoc entered into a unique partnership to deliver on their mutual mission of massively scaling CVD screening and risk assessments outside of GP surgeries.
Since the launch of the test last year, this partnership has generated the majority of all QRISK3 scores registered across the UK from communities, workplaces and homes, making PocDoc the largest single provider outside the GP network. This development underscores Endeavour Predict CIC and PocDoc’s commitment to equipping healthcare systems and individuals with the tools they need to proactively manage their heart health.
Implemented and maintained by the Endeavour Predict CIC, QRISK3 is recommended by the UK’s National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) for the primary prevention of cardiovascular disease (CVD). It compares a patient’s score with others in their demographic, indicating whether a lifestyle change or medical intervention is needed.
The Healthy Heart Check’s detailed health questionnaire collects all necessary data to generate a QRISK3 score, including critical blood bio-marker values, and integrates with the QRISK3 algorithm to deliver in minutes what can take weeks or months under the current standard of care.
The Healthy Heart Check is the first service of its kind to be fully integrated with the NHS App, providing patients with a clear care pathway depending on the outcome. In doing so, the test also eases the pressure on the healthcare system by unburdening GPs from unnecessary appointments.
In fact, the NHS estimates that each digital health check could save 20 minutes of NHS time, resulting in £27 billion in reduced costs2 over the next ten years, and help save up to one million people annually from heart attacks and strokes.
Steve Roest, Co-Founder and CEO of PocDoc, said: “As the leading provider of QRISK3 scores in communities, workplaces and homes in the country, we’re demonstrating the power of healthtech innovation in delivering preventative care at scale.
“The success of the Healthy Heart Check highlights the growing demand for accessible, digital-first cardiovascular screening, with widespread adoption across NHS regions and major pharmacy chains.
“Through our unique partnership with the Endeavour Predict CIC, we've already helped hundreds of thousands of individuals take proactive steps towards managing their heart health.
“Looking ahead, PocDoc will continue to expand its reach through new partnerships and innovations, ensuring even more people have access to critical preventative tools, regardless of their location or background.”
Shane Tickell, CEO of Endeavour Predict CIC said: “Our mission is to scale the prevention of cardiovascular disease (CVD) using cutting-edge technology, industry leading risk modelling and real-time data.
“Through our partnership with PocDoc, we’re reaching more patients than ever, increasing access to healthcare across the country and empowering individuals to take control of their heart health.”
