STARTUP OLÉ CELEBRATES ITS 10TH ANNIVERSARY TURNING SALAMANCA INTO THE GREAT WORLD CAPITAL OF ENTREPRENEURSHIP AND INNOVATION

From 4 to 7 September 2023, the capital will host the new edition of the largest innovation and entrepreneurship event in Europe/Hopeful Spain.

The Salamanca City Council, the Salamanca Provincial Council, the University of Salamanca, the School of Industrial Organisation, Spain Up Nation, ICO-AXIS, CDTI, ENISA, ICEX, INCIBE, Iberdrola, Acciona, Enagás, Cepsa, Cinfa, Renfe, EIT Health, Caja Rural de Salamanca, the ONCE Foundation and the Red Cross, among others, are collaborating in the event.

Salamanca will host the tenth edition of Startup OLÉ between 4 and 7 September at the Palacio de Congresos of the capital of Salamanca and in various venues of the University of Salamanca. Emilio Corchado, CEO and founder of Startup OLÉ, will act as master of ceremonies for this event. The event will include, among other activities, a forum for investors and corporations, the presentation of ABIOINNOVA (the high-tech incubator in the biotechnology and biomedical sector led by the Salamanca City Council), a forum on the CYL-HUB project, an accelerator forum, an Ibero-American innovation forum, an impact forum and a university forum, making it, once again, the largest innovation and entrepreneurship fair in Europe/Spain Hopeful. Startup OLÉ 2023 will focus on the organisation of activities that include exclusive content with great speakers in round tables and plenary talks, startup fair, pitch competition, and matchmaking and networking activities.

More than 500 leading speakers and more than 180 startups have already confirmed their attendance for this edition, and it is expected that these figures will increase significantly before the registration deadline. It is worth noting that His Majesty King Felipe VI has renewed his support for Startup OLÉ and will once again be the president of the fair's Honorary Committee.

This tenth edition also has the backing of the public and private sectors, both nationally and internationally. In the public sector, there are representatives from the European Commission and the Governments and Embassies of Bulgaria, Brazil, Argentina and Chile, among others, as well as Spanish public administrations such as ICO-AXIS, CDTI, ENISA, ICEX, Spain Up Nation (SUN), the School of Industrial Organisation (EOI) and INCIBE. The strong support of the private sector is reflected in the participation of major national corporations, such as Iberdrola, Acciona, Enagás, RTVE, Cepsa, Mondragón, Facsa, Renfe, La Bolsa (BME), ONCE, Cruz Roja, along with companies from Castilla y León, such as Caja Rural de Salamanca, Bodegas Matarromera, Gonvarri, Aciturri, Bodegas Fariña and Mirat, among others.

As for investors, associations and investment funds from Spain (SPAINCAP), Argentina, Chile, Brazil, Colombia and Mexico will participate, as well as large national and international funds such as Samaipata, K-fund, Encomenda, Swanlaab, JME, Cardumen Capital, Easo Ventures, Unirisco, Global Social Impact Investment and Anthology Ventures, among others.

This tenth edition will also bring together prominent unicorns, such as Vincent Rosso, co-founder of Blablacar and CEO of Consentio and Peter Vesterbacka, creator of Angry Birds; along with other relevant players in the entrepreneurial ecosystem such as the co-founder of BQ, Rodrigo del Prado, as well as José del Barrio, co-founder of La Nevera Roja and founder of the investment fund Samaipata.

The international projection is reflected in one of the great novelties of this year, as is the presence of the Republic of Bulgaria as a guest country. In this regard, its Vice-President and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mariya Gabriel, will be present, as well as a large delegation of Bulgarian companies and startups. The Vice-President of the European Commission for Democracy and Demography, Dubravka Suica, will also participate digitally. In addition, the ambassador of the Argentine Republic in Spain, Ricardo Alfonsín, and several delegations with institutional representatives, corporations and startups from cities in other Eastern European countries, such as Cluj Napoca (Romania) and Ostrava (Czech Republic), will attend the event in person. At the national level, there will be representatives and startups from practically all the autonomous communities.

In addition, Startup OLÉ is once again committed to social commitment. Proof of this is the collaboration with entities such as the Red Cross, the Once Foundation, the Prevent Foundation and, in particular, with the 'Spin Connect Challenge', a solidarity initiative, sponsored by the former cyclist and Olympic medallist Samuel Sánchez, which combines cycling and technology to raise funds for people with intellectual disabilities. The participants of the 'Spin Connect Challenge' will finish their route in Salamanca on 6 September and will give a talk.

This tenth edition is part of the Spain Up Nation strategy and has been funded by the European Union-Next Generation EU and the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan; and supported by the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Tourism and EOI, within the project 'Boosting the entrepreneurial ecosystem'.

As in previous editions, Startup OLÉ invites the general public to attend the event, being able to register completely free as an attendee.
