Seven ways to introduce healthy habits into the workplace

The modern workplace is rapidly becoming an increasingly competitive place in the post-pandemic environment. Ultimately, such high competition in the office leads to a lot of stress and strife. As colleagues and other staff members become sick, the remaining ones have to take the slack.

This is why it is absolutely imperative to introduce, and ultimately retain healthy habits in your office or any other workplace: Let us see for ourselves how we can go about doing precisely that:

  1. Get hold of some workout machines and exercise equipment

It would be a great idea to clear your office so that there is some extra space in your workplace for exercising and workout equipment. Look at it this way. Sitting in your office all day long is not exactly a healthy activity. While a brisk walk is all well and good, more often than not, it isn’t enough to compensate for our otherwise sedentary lifestyle. Once you have a little space dedicated as an office gym it is likely that many of your friends and colleagues would also join in, making for some healthy competition for just about everyone concerned. This is the ideal way of not just staying productive but also slim, trim, smart, and healthy.

  1. Try to avoid as much negativity as you can

Negative emotions are amongst the most toxic things in any workplace.  If there is a surfeit of negativity in your immediate environment, it is time to shift gears before it has a really adverse effect on your mental wellbeing.

  1. Don’t participate in politics

It would be a really good idea to stay well away from all of the office politics and high drama. In fact, avoiding conflict means you will be able to drastically increase your daily productivity.

  1. Take breaks from work every half an hour or so

It is an axiomatic assumption that working for a continuous 8 to 9 hours at a stretch is a very stressful way of working, and can lead to overstrain. This is why it is always a good idea to take multiple breaks at least every 20 minutes or so. Not only will it help you keep your mind fresh, but also your body as well. You might consider taking a brisk walk every alternate hour.

  1. Make sure you get plenty of sunlight

Large open windows that enable fresh air and natural light to enter the workplace are an easy way of taking care of your health. We are genetically programmed to work better in natural light than its artificial facsimile. If your office has a lot of natural light and air, you will be able to perform better by default.

  1. Take care of your posture

Spending hour after hour, day after day hunched up in a badly made chair in front of a screen, sitting on a table too high for you, can really mess up your health. It is imperative to work with the best furniture you can find. That is tables and chairs are designed from the ground up for optimum comfort and posture alignment for extended periods of time. In fact, it would be a great idea to make sure the other employees in the office do the same.

  1. Unplug yourself from work for certain periods of time

If yours is already a stressful job it would be a good idea to unplug yourself from your workstation and smartphone and take some time out for yourself. This can be a 12 o clock coffee session with colleagues, or it could be a ‘me time only’ cup of tea an hour before you head back home. Even though you may not know it, you do require your personal space to unwind from the daily grind, for at least a few minutes every few hours.

Conclusion

Your office is in many respects, your home away from home. This is why it has to be a healthy place, safe from bad habits such as the sedentary lifestyle. You should aim to exercise every few hours and also create a dedicated corner for your workout equipment and invite everyone to work out with you. In time, everyone present at your workplace will become healthy too
