Meeting this year's Innovation Faceoff's finalists

The Innovation Faceoff to find the most disruptive tech set to revolutionise business travel returns to Business Travel Show Europe this month (29-30 June, ExCeL London) and six of this year’s nine finalists are startups.

We meet Arise Travel, Jyrney, Simard, Table4One, TripStax and TripShift ahead of the event to find out what makes their tech so special.

Arise Travel

We spoke to Nadim El Manawy, Co-founder & CEO, Arise Travel, who was founded back in 2018.

1

What do you do?

We provide distribution technology for hotels and travel management companies (TMCs)/OBTs (online booking tools) to share real time data and business rules directly between themselves in a much more powerful and efficient way.

What problem does your innovation solve?

It solves the real time data quality, accuracy and transparency between hotels and their corporate partners. Our distributed database model (blockchain) creates a single, scalable source-of-truth for hotel data so different connected systems can utilise the same record at the same time, improving TMC’s merchandising capabilities, commission reconciliation and economics, while removing friction between parties.

What are the benefits to travellers and organisations with travellers?

Travellers have a better booking experience as our technology enables their TMC/OBT to always show them real time accurate content and personalised offers unique to each traveller. Corporations benefit as our distributed ledger technology provides a single source of truth that automates booking and commission reconciliation as well as providing real-time visibility on contracted rate loading and utilisation.

What are your plans for future growth?

Continue onboarding more hotel chains and TMCs/OBTs. Leisure travel companies will also be connecting to Arise to improve their distribution capabilities and processes with hotels. Making our technology available to other travel verticals such as air, car rental and train could be a possibility in the future.

What will it mean to you to win the Innovation Faceoff?

It will further validate that corporate travellers, corporations and their TMCs/OBTs are ready to take their hotel distribution capabilities and overall travel programme to the next level.

JYRNEY

We also caught up with Daniel Price, co-founder and CEO, Jyrney.

Jyrney was founded in 2020, and they actually wrote the first lines of code for the platform about a week before the first lockdown, so Jyrney was completely built over video calls while the team were working from home.

2

What do you do?

Jyrney is a transformative mobility platform connecting business travel management companies with thousands of ground transport options.

What problem does your innovation solve?

Today less than 3% of business travel bookings through a travel management company have a mobility option attached, which is crazy when you consider every flight, train and hotel booking has at least two ground transport trips.  Due to a historic lack of technology, these bookings are placed out of policy and leave the traveller exposed to increased costs and safety concerns. Jyrney provides an integrated and audited taxi supply directly into the passengers booking flow, making it easier than ever to booked connected ground transport.

What are the benefits to travellers and organisations with travellers?

When a taxi booking is brought within policy the traveller doesn’t need to worry about the booking, we manage it from start to finish ensuring they is collected by a pre-approved taxi company.  They no longer need to process invoices or handle cash, their TMC will send an invoice directly to their company.  They can even use their trusted local taxi company or well-known international brands.  The company benefits from reduced cost, full Co2 data and an improved ability to meet duty of care responsibilities.

What are your plans for future growth?

We have recently signed contracts with several travel management companies and plan to help them better integrate taxi and mobility solutions for their customers and travellers.  We have several partnerships in the pipeline to help us develop new markets so watch this space!

What will it mean to you to win the Innovation Faceoff?

Winning the Innovation Faceoff will help Jyrney on its mission to lift ground transport to its rightful place in business travel next to air, rail and hotel.  Ground transport is the most often forgotten part of business travel, it’s the final frontier for travel management companies and we want to use our expertise to help them explore this new territory!
