French foodtech giant Clone launches in the Netherlands
Clone, the Paris-based European foodtech startup that has secured €105 million in funding, is officially launching in the Netherlands. The company aims to help restaurateurs maximise their kitchen capacity through a unique supply chain model paired with virtual restaurant brands focused on delivery.
Over the past 11 months, Clone has achieved 80% growth across Europe. The €105 million investment enables the company to solidify its position as a key player in the sector while providing scalable solutions for optimising kitchen utilisation. The backing from Kharis Capital and Raphael Thiolon of Verlinvest underscores Clone’s innovative strength and future vision.
€105 million capital injection
Since its founding in 2021, Clone has achieved exceptional growth figures thanks to a substantial €105 million capital injection, including a €80 million Series B investment led by Kharis Capital, Verlinvest, and Conviviality Ventures. This financial strength enables Clone to further develop its technology and expand its services to new markets like the Netherlands, where the company sees strong demand for efficient meal delivery solutions.
“Clone has already helped over 2,500 restaurants generate additional revenue by transforming their kitchens into digital franchises,” says Co-Founder Alexandre Haggai. “Our innovative model allows local restaurants to capitalise on virtual brands. Through platforms like Uber Eats and JET, we create valuable new revenue streams without requiring additional investment in facilities.”
Transforming the delivery market
Sam Klopper, Clone Netherlands’ new General Manager, brings a wealth of experience from the foodtech and delivery industries to the company. With an impressive track record in management and leadership roles at companies such as Eatch, Zapp, and Deliveroo, Klopper is well-versed in the challenges and opportunities of the rapidly growing delivery market.
“The Dutch delivery market has undergone a remarkable digital transformation in recent years. Clone is taking the next step, driving a new revolution in meal delivery,” says Klopper. “I want to genuinely help restaurateurs make the most of this development. From my experience growing foodtech companies, I’ve seen how powerful the combination of technology and smart processes can be.”
Klopper emphasises that combining technological innovations with strategic support is crucial for entrepreneurs looking to capitalise on the growing demand for delivery meals.
“In a market that is changing faster than ever, our goal is to provide restaurateurs with the tools and insights they need to not just keep up but also thrive.”
Supply chain integrated with Clone’s technology
Clone is rapidly expanding its network in the Netherlands through a partnership with Bidfood, a leading wholesaler for food professionals.
“By integrating Bidfood’s supply chain with our technology, we provide restaurateurs with a powerful solution,” explains Klopper. “They are directly supplied with all the ingredients they need to prepare their menus without requiring additional investment. This system enables them to easily respond to the growing demand for delivery meals.”
According to Klopper, this integration simplifies restaurant operations, reduces food waste, and increases profitability.
“This partnership demonstrates what is possible when technology and an efficient supply chain come together. We are thrilled about the positive impact this will have on the Dutch hospitality sector,” he adds.
