Startups Magazine’s top 5 startups from CES: Day one

CES is one of the most powerful tech events in the world. It is known as the proving ground for breakthrough technologies and global innovators. On day one of the show, the Startups Magazine team interviewed a range of innovative startups from across the globe.

SLM Global

SLM Global is a robotics startup from South Korea. Founded in 2018 in Daejeon, South Korea, SLM Global combines knowledge and experience from its key founding members to create innovative solutions. The company is currently focused on its underwater hull-cleaning robot system.

The robot, equipped with magnetically driven electric wheels, adheres to and moves across the hull surface, effectively removing fouling through brushing. It operates under the remote power, monitoring, and control of a single operator through a tether cable. The design includes assistant systems that facilitate straightforward deployment and retrieval under various conditions. After each cleaning task, comprehensive reports are produced, featuring detailed, position-tagged video recordings, which are available shortly thereafter.

DayBreak

DayBreak is on a mission to create a better future, by connecting producers and consumers. The startup’s focus is on addressing issues like labour shortages, food loss, and preserving freshness in the food industry. It aims to achieve this through its unique freezing solutions. Its key product is the ‘Art Lock Freezer’, a self-developed technology that underscores their commitment to the refrigeration business.

Alongside selling specially developed freezing equipment, DayBreak also runs a food laboratory. This lab supports businesses entering the frozen food market by offering recipe development and consulting services to enhance manufacturing processes. Their comprehensive approach aims to ensure a brighter future in food-related fields.

Squadmobility

Squad Mobility, a startup originating from the Netherlands, has introduced a solar-powered electric vehicle (EV) designed for urban environments. The company aims to offer affordable and clean mobility solutions for densely populated cities.

Its primary product is the Squad Solar City Car, a compact two-seater vehicle that's lightweight and efficient. It's equipped with a 250Wp solar panel integrated into its roof, capable of generating sufficient power for short daily trips. In sunny conditions, it's estimated to cover around 13 miles solely on solar energy.

MOPLAT

MOPLAT is a startup that aims to enhance the mobility experience. In the rapidly evolving field of Connected, Autonomous, Shared & Service (CASS), and Electric Vehicles (EV), MOPLAT is contributing to the paradigm shift in the industry.

Founded in 2021 and based in Seoul, South Korea, MOPLAT focuses on developing integrated electronic components to improve the mobility experience. This includes designing and providing information displays and multi-functional automotive products.

VTouch

VTouch is an innovative startup specialising in touchless technology. Its flagship product, SpatialTouch Home, received recognition as a CES Innovation Honouree in 2022 in three categories: Virtual & Augmented Reality, Smart Home, and Home Appliances. This technology enables users to control devices and objects in their environment simply by pointing at them, eliminating the need for physical contact. This touchless interaction is made possible through a set of 3D motion sensors and AI technology.
