Startup Summit returns some big confirmed speakers

Startup Summit, an international festival of entrepreneurship, has announced dates for its 2020 edition and first headline speakers from globally-recognised brands including David Wilding, Director of Planning at Twitter, Irana Wasti, Regional President for GoDaddy EMEA, and Matt Davey, Chief Operation Optimist at 1Password

The annual event, which usually attracts over 1000 attendees to Edinburgh's Assembly Rooms, will be held online on October 28th and 29th in response to the global Covid-19 pandemic, and will, for the first time, take place over an extended two-day programme.

Now in its ninth year, Startup Summit has provided a space for thousands of entrepreneurs and business leaders to connect with their peers and gain important insight from industry experts, including speakers from Google, SurveyMonkey and Xero.

For the fourth consecutive year, Johnston Carmichael is backing Startup Summit. Johnston Carmichael is Scotland’s largest independent firm of chartered accountants and business advisers and supports some of the country's most innovative and high-growth startups, scaleups and international businesses.

Bruce Walker, Co-founder of FutureX, said: “Startup Summit first launched in 2012 with the ambition to bring together ambitious entrepreneurs and, for the past nine years, we’ve grown alongside the ecosystem. This year, the entire world has been impacted by Covid-19, exposing the social and economic problems that lie just beneath the surface.

Our entire team at Startup Summit and FutureX, alongside all our partners, stand ready to meet the challenge and use the power of entrepreneurial action to supercharge high-growth, high impact startups and entrepreneurs - no matter where they are in the world - at a time when the world needs sustainable companies that scale.

David Wilding, Director of Planning at Twitter UK, said: "Events like Startup Summit play a hugely important role, bringing promising entrepreneurs together to learn the crucial skills they need to succeed in business. I'm excited to speak at this year's event and look forward to sharing the insight I've gained from my career at Twitter and beyond."

Andrew Holloway, Director and Head of Entrepreneurial Taxes at Johnstone Carmichael, said: "Entrepreneurs have an insatiable appetite for growth and success, and nowhere is this more evident than at Startup Summit, which each year showcases ambitious innovators from across Scotland and beyond. Right now, businesses across the globe are being tested to their maximum and being resilient and planning for the future, while also collaborating with colleagues and contacts has never been more important. Adaptability and innovation are at the heart of this and these are traits entrepreneurial businesses have in abundance.

“Partnering with FutureX, the team behind Startup Summit, for the fourth year running was an easy decision for Johnston Carmichael: like us, they are forward-thinking, socially conscious and have a global mindset.”
