Dassault Systèmes supports startup in development of a climate-positive mobility concept
With the help of the 3DEXPERIENCE Works for Startups program and the 3DEXPERIENCE platform from Dassault Systèmes, ottobahn is developing a rail-guided, climate-positive gondola service for use in and between cities. After extensive software-based tests in virtual space, 100,000 test kilometres are to be completed from the second half of the year as part of the approval process.
With its concept, the young Munich-based company not only wants to optimise city traffic, but also to completely rethink mobility. The ottobahn is a gondola system guided by rails that is intended to operate at a height of up to 10m above or parallel to road traffic. The autonomously driving, electrically driven cabins can be called individually via app. An algorithm always calculates the fastest connection for all gondolas along the route in real time.
"In order for cities to become fit for the future, a sustainability strategy and new, courageous and holistic mobility concepts are needed. It is sustainable innovations such as the gondola system from ottobahn that we at Dassault Systèmes want to support with our 3DEXPERIENCE platform. Thanks to a great cooperation of all parties involved, an idea became a pilot project within a very short time, the further development of which we are eagerly following," said Dominic Kurtaz, Managing Director EUROCENTRAL at Dassault Systèmes.
The ottobahn was developed and constructed with the help of the 3DEXPERIENCE Works for Startups programme. With this programme, Dassault Systèmes promotes the realisation of sustainable ideas and provides founders with the necessary software tools for CAD, simulation and visualization.
Central to the mobility pioneers is the 3DEXPERIENCE platform in the cloud. All project participants can access the latest data versions from anywhere thanks to a single source of truth – whether from the office, home office or on the go. Adjustments in the design data can be made directly on the platform. In addition, each user can put together their preferred workflow with individual dashboards. The SaaS offer does not incur any extra costs for servers or IT admins – an important factor for small or young companies. ottobahn is currently supported by Dassault Systèmes SOLIDWORKS partner MB CAD.
"Three years from the founding of the company to the construction of the first test track is truly record-breaking. This is exactly the pace we need to make progress in the transformation of mobility. This is only made possible by the appropriate design and development tools with which we can act so dynamically. A uniform data platform is indispensable for us, as it enables collaboration across locations and departments. Due to the high degree of scalability, we have relied on a future-proof solution right from the start, which will continue to support us even as our team grows," said Marc Schindler, Managing Director and Can-do Officer of ottobahn.
In addition to SOLIDWORKS' startup program, Dassault Systèmes has created another startup accelerator programme, the 3DEXPERIENCE Lab. It promotes disruptive projects that have the potential to change society. Startups selected for the programme have extensive access to a technology, mentoring, and networking program to accelerate their digital product development. In 2022, Dassault Systèmes will also open a 3DEXPERIENCE Lab in Munich.
