The Six EV Startups To Watch

Electric vehicles are dominating the conversation, with road users, freight operators and the wider automotive sector rapidly embracing this transformative technology.

To mark the pace of change, ABB and GreenTV created World Electric Vehicle Day (EV Day), an annual global celebration of EVs, sustainability and the shift towards zero‑emissions transport.

In honour of EV Day, here are six startups pushing the boundaries of what electric mobility can be. From carbon‑neutral charging solutions to on‑demand power wherever it’s needed, these companies are redefining the future of clean transport.

1. Wayve

UK‑based Wayve develops AI software for autonomous driving. Its system enables various EVs to steer, brake, accelerate and navigate without human intervention. Unlike traditional autonomous systems that rely on hard‑coded rules, Wayve’s technology learns from human driving patterns and behaviour, making it more adaptable to diverse roads and unpredictable conditions.

The company frequently works with EVs such as electric delivery vans and future robotaxi platforms. Wayve has raised more than $2.8 billion, backed by major investors including Microsoft and SoftBank.

2. Einride

Stockholm‑based Einride is a freight technology platform offering end‑to‑end solutions for electric and autonomous shipping. The company builds self‑driving electric trucks and develops Saga, the software that manages them. Saga plans routes, oversees charging and supports remote operations, helping customers decarbonise their logistics and transition to digitalised freight systems.

Founded in 2016, Einride became the first company to operate an autonomous, electric freight vehicle on a public road. In 2025, it raised $100 million from investors including EQT Ventures.

3. Sparkcharge

Sparkcharge develops portable, modular EV charging solutions that allow drivers to charge their vehicles without relying on fixed charging stations or grid infrastructure. Its flagship product, Roadie, enables EV owners to charge in remote locations or during emergencies.

The modular design lets users stack multiple battery packs to increase charging capacity, and the device is lightweight, user‑friendly and capable of delivering fast charging comparable to Level 3 DC fast chargers. In May 2025, Sparkcharge raised a $15.5 million Series A led by Monte’s Fam, alongside a $15 million venture loan facility from Horizon Technology Finance Corporation, totalling $30.5 million.

4. Ultraviolette

India‑based Ultraviolette develops high‑performance electric motorbikes that deliver battery‑powered, sport‑like performance. Its flagship model, the Ultraviolette F77, is designed for speed, advanced technology integration and premium aesthetics.

The company has engineered a battery system that provides long range and rapid acceleration, and its bikes include safety features such as radar and dashcam integration with terrain and weather sensing. Ultraviolette has raised around $140 million across multiple rounds, with investment from Zoho, Lingotto (Exor), TVS Motor Company, Qualcomm Ventures and TDK Ventures.

5. Fernride

Fernride provides scalable automation for industries ranging from container terminals to defence. The company replaces diesel yard vehicles with electric trucks that can operate autonomously or be driven remotely.

Fernride helps warehouses and ports run trailer movements more efficiently while addressing driver shortages and improving safety in hazardous environments. A spinout from TU Munich, Fernride reported having over 150 employees in 2025. That same year, it raised €18 million in a Series A round led by Helantic and was later acquired by Quantum Systems, an AI‑powered unmanned systems company, for an undisclosed sum.

6. Group14 Technologies

US‑based Group14 Technologies develops advanced battery materials and has gained attention for creating a silicon‑carbon composite that serves as a drop‑in replacement for graphite anodes in lithium‑ion batteries. Known as SCC55, the material significantly boosts energy density and charging speed.

Under lab conditions, SCC55 enables batteries to charge from 0–100% in 90 seconds, while also extending EV driving range. The technology has been adopted by electric vehicle manufacturers, consumer electronics companies and data centres. Named after silicon, the 14th element of the periodic table , Group14 secured a $463 million investment in August 2025.
