Young innovators launch AI startups at Red Bull Basement finals in Tokyo

Red Bull Basement, the global event empowering a new generation of innovators to launch world-changing, AI-powered startups, has announced the teams set to compete in the 2024 final in Tokyo next month.

Finalists include Argus, a voice-activated eyeglass device that uses object detection to help visually-impaired people get around; Agriconnect, an AI-powered agriculture tracking app that allows farmers to protect their crops and increase yield; and 38 other teams of entrepreneurs whose startup ideas have the potential for global positive impact with the right funding and support.

The World Final will bring together teams from nearly 40 countries for an immersive event featuring workshops, AI training, and networking with international entrepreneurs, innovators and business leaders, culminating in the selection of a global winner.

The judges include:

  • Hans Yang, Head of Microsoft Startups
  • John Taylor, Chief Marketing Officer at AMD, a leader in high-performance computing and AI technology
  • Letizia Royo-Villanova, early-stage investor at Plug and Play, a renowned Silicon Valley-based VC firm and accelerator
  • Jun Yuh, an influential entrepreneur and business mentor
  • Ryan Sagare - Host and Producer of AMD Meet the Experts Webinar Series

The panel will select a global winner based on concept uniqueness, potential business impact, feasibility, AI connection and the founders’ profile. The winning team will be awarded a three-week, all-expenses-paid trip to Silicon Valley, where they will be immersed in a programme of networking and mentorship with tech and VC leaders.

Previous winning teams, such as Audvice – an AI-powered private podcasting platform for HR and educational professionals – have gone on to secure multi-million dollar investments, partner with global brands, and attract transformative acquisition deals.

After introducing a new AI-powered application format, 2024 marks Red Bull Basement’s biggest year yet, attracting over 110,000 applications. The development comes as part of Red Bull’s commitment to removing common barriers to the world of startups, and enabling more young visionaries to take their ideas from inception through business plan to reality.
