Winners of the HiPEAC Technology Transfer Award 2023 announced
A biodiversity monitoring startup, enhanced machine learning for neurology research, and pre-fabrication validation for advanced processor designs exemplify this year's HiPEAC Technology Transfer Awards.
These awards celebrate academia-developed innovations that are primed for industrial application. The award ceremony will take place at the HiPEAC conference in Munich January 2024. New awardees will also receive a €1,000 cash prize.
Koen De Bosschere, HiPEAC coordinator from Ghent University, highlighted the significance of the awards: "There is huge potential for disruptive innovations within the HiPEAC community. These awards are aimed at inspiring others with exceptional results that have made the leap out of the lab. By transferring their research to industry, these HiPEAC members have ensured that their work has a tangible impact on society."
Initiated in 2012, the HiPEAC Technology Transfer Awards motivate members to convert their research into industry-ready outcomes. Tech transfer is demonstrated through activities such as technology licensing, offering dedicated services to existing companies, creating new companies, or developing marketable solutions tailored to specific company needs.
The five recipients of this year's awards are:
- FPGA-Shell: Rapid Emulation of RISC-V Designs on FPGAs – Behzad Salami, Barcelona Supercomputing Center, Spain
- Enhancing Pavlovian-training experiments with GPU-accelerated machine learning – Christos Strydis, Erasmus Medical Centre, Netherlands
- ORBIK Cybersecurity: A cybersecurity spinoff for equipment manufacturers – Salvador Trujillo, ORBIK Cybersecurity, Spain
- Empowering next-generation processor design: EDA tools for faster time-to-market – Lennart Michael Reimann, RWTH Aachen, Germany
