Why entrepreneurs need connection for mental wellness

On 10th October it is World Mental Health Day, a day to remember how deeply mental wellness shapes our lives, our communities, and our work.

As startups, entrepreneurs, and founders, we’re often seen as resilient, fast-paced, and laser-focused… but, behind the polished surface, many of us wrestle with isolation, burnout, self-doubt, and overwhelm (I know I have)... the constant juggling of responsibilities, the pressure to deliver, and the unpredictability of business can take a real toll. Add to that the relentless inner voice that can question our worth, value and decision making – and the entrepreneurial path can feel lonelier than ever.

That’s why connection matters.

Through my own journey – and through building the Connect Women in Biz community – I’ve learned that we don’t just need strategies and sales; we need supportive spaces where we feel safe, seen, and connected.

Connection over competition

There’s a quiet magic that happens when we choose collaboration over competition. As women in business, we grow stronger when we lift each other up. You don’t need all the answers, and you don’t have to do it alone. What you need are people who connect with your vision, share the ups and downs, and remind you that you’re not walking this road by yourself.

Connection with yourself

Mental wellness truly begins with understanding your own mind. Many entrepreneurs carry the weight of believing they’re “too much” or “not enough” – too many ideas, too inconsistent, too scattered. But often, that’s simply the way your brain is wired. What if, instead of fighting it, you connected with how your mind works?

For me, variety is essential. I thrive when I mix things up in my business. That “too many ideas” energy isn’t a flaw – it’s creativity. It’s the spark that keeps my work alive. When we stop resisting who we are and build businesses around our strengths, we create harmony between our vision and our wellbeing.

Connection through pause

Startup life rarely pauses. Yet it’s in the pauses that we reset, breathe, and reconnect with ourselves and others. At Connect Women in Biz, our gatherings start with no-pressure conversations – space to share, decompress, and simply exhale. Only then do we move into focused co-working. And the results are powerful: accountability, motivation, and surprising productivity, all born from simply not working alone.

Connection with community

Not everyone understands the entrepreneurial journey – but finding those who do changes everything. When you’re surrounded by people who “get it,” you feel heard, understood, and supported. That sense of belonging can be the difference between burning out and breaking through. Who you connect with matters.

In a culture that often praises independence and constant hustle, it’s easy to forget that our greatest strength lies in connection. For entrepreneurs, these connections aren’t “nice to have” – they are what sustain our vision, protect our mental health, and remind us why we started in the first place.

This World Mental Health Day, let’s choose connection over isolation, collaboration over competition, and community over going it alone. Because when we connect, we don’t just grow businesses – we grow stronger, together.
