What goals are Brits hoping to achieve in 2022?

Covid and its subsequent lockdowns provided us with an opportunity to assess our lives and look inward to determine what we truly want from our lives. Many Brits took up a new hobby, some quit their jobs, and some jumped onto the property ladder.

Now, as we’ve emerged from the pandemic, Brits are setting goals left, right and centre, which begs the question: what kind of goals are people making? From personal goals like getting in shape or meeting new people to career-focused goals, we explore the goals Brits are hoping to achieve in 2022.

What are the most popular goals among Brits?

Flyer printing specialist instantprint spoke to a number of employees around the UK to find out what the most popular goals are for Brits in 2022. According to their research, the top goal was getting into shape/getting fitter, with 19% of those asked rating this their highest priority. Getting a salary rise came in a close second with 18% of those asked prioritising a higher pay package.

Seeing more of the world was another of the most popular goals, with 12% of those asked saying this was their biggest goal for the year. Getting a promotion, buying a home, landing their dream job, making new friends, and moving somewhere new each received 12% of the votes.

Other goals that made the list were winning the lottery (10%) and meeting a long-term partner (9%).

Achieving goals through manifestation

These days, many people are attempting to achieve their goals through the power of manifestation, which begs the question; what does manifestation mean? Simply put, manifesting is a practice that involves thinking positive thoughts with the aspiration that they’ll come true.

Close to one quarter (24%) of those asked say they “somewhat believe” in the idea, claiming being positive and confident increases their chances of success. However, instantprint’s survey found not everyone is onboard with the practice, revealing 16% of those surveyed believe manifestation will have no effect on whether or not they meet their goals.

The rise in manifestation

Despite some clear scepticism surrounding manifestation, the practice has generated a significant amount of buzz and was even gaining popularity before the emotional turmoil of the pandemic.

A number of endorsements from celebrities including Oprah Winfrey, Ariana Grande and Lady Gaga have also helped to push manifestation into the spotlight.

A recent Twitter campaign entitled 'Tweet It into Existence' took place earlier this year. The campaign which aimed to inspire people to dream big involved the resurrection of tweets from many years prior, where celebrities had shared ambitions which have since come true.

An impressive example shown in Twitter’s campaign included rapper Megan Thee Stallion who claimed: "rap gone take off for me" and has since been awarded a Grammy. Actor Simu Liu, who played Shang-Chi in Shang-Chi and The Legend of The Ten Rings also seems to have benefited from manifesting his dreams, after tweeting Marvel Studios: “Are we gonna talk or what #ShangChi” back in 2018.
