WeRoad expands beyond travel to tackle loneliness
WeRoad, the travel brand that has brought together over 200,000 solo travellers worldwide, announces the launch of WeMeet, a new way for people to meet others in their cities through in-person events and shared experiences.
Designed for both WeRoaders (customers) and people new to the brand, WeMeet makes it easy to meet people and build friendships through curated social gatherings.
WeMeet is part of WeRoad’s broader commitment to tackle the loneliness epidemic. The World Health Organization declared loneliness a global public health threat, with over 30% of young adults (ages 18–34) reporting feeling lonely every day. With WeMeet, anyone – regardless of whether they’ve travelled with WeRoad – can download the app to discover local events designed to expand their social circles and make meaningful real-life connections.
“From the beginning, WeRoad thought of itself as a people-oriented business, not a travel company. Helping people make real friendships and meaningful connections has always been our central focus and travel was our way of doing that,” says Erika De Santi, Co-Founder & Chief of Experience. “Now, we’re bringing that same mission closer to home. WeMeet is about making it easier to connect with others in your own city. We want these connections to become part of people’s everyday lives – not just something that happens once or twice a year on a trip.”
With WeMeet, WeRoad offers a simple and accessible way to turn free time into opportunities for real connection. From urban hikes and after-work drinks to creative workshops and yoga sessions, each event is designed to bring people together and spark new friendships.
WeRoad is no stranger to hosting successful local gatherings on top of the extended world-spanning trips it’s already known for. In 2024 alone, more than 50,000 participants attended local events hosted by the company. WeMeet builds on that momentum, bringing people together not just while travelling, but in their day-to-day lives. WeMeet is launching in over 30 European cities, including London, Manchester, Dublin, Berlin, Cologne, Paris, Madrid, Barcelona, Amsterdam, Zurich, Rome, and Milan.
“WeMeet is designed to bring people together around shared interests, whether it’s a morning hike, a pottery class, or simply meeting for drinks,” adds Daniel Martinez Delfa, Senior Marketing and Event Manager at WeRoad. “We’re starting with over 300 events in over 30 European cities and planning to keep adding more events and new locales.”
The WeMeet app is available in multiple languages and has a dedicated events discovery feature. Users can RSVP to events in their city, receive personalised invites, and follow favourite hosts. Events will initially be free to attend with plans to move to a subscription model in the coming months.
