UniSCool voted overall winner of Bupa’s sustainability and innovation programme
Bupa, a global healthcare company, has declared UniSCool, a Spanish startup specializing in an innovative liquid cooling solution, as the winner of its talent development and sustainability innovation programme, as chosen by its 82,000-strong global workforce.
In the third installment of Bupa's eco-Disruptive programme, employees teamed up with startups worldwide to devise solutions bolstering the company's sustainability goals, while gaining insights into agile working, problem-solving, and disruptive technologies.
From over a thousand entrants, six finalists emerged by the end of November. Bupa's Group CEO, Iñaki Ereño, announced UniSCool as the most popular choice during a recent live-streamed event.
UniSCool will receive £200,000 to further their solution and continue collaborating with Bupa employees to promote sustainability. Additionally, they will get specialized support from Plug and Play, the largest innovation platform globally, including mentoring, investor meetings, and a chance to present at the Plug and Play Summer Summit in Silicon Valley.
Iñaki Ereño, Bupa’s Group CEO, remarked, “To quicken our stride towards a healthier, sustainable future, we need collaboration, innovation, and disruptive solutions. We’re aware that we don’t have all the answers, so working with these tenacious startups and exchanging ideas is something we value greatly.

Startups entering the eco-Disruptive programme tackle key challenges in Bupa’s sustainability strategy, from reducing operational carbon footprint to developing eco-friendly healthcare buildings.
UniSCool's solution efficiently cools microchip hotspots by swiftly extracting generated heat. Bupa employees have been exploring how this technology could cut down on electricity consumption in Bupa facilities and potentially enhance the performance and lifespan of medical equipment.
As part of its commitment to fostering innovative sustainability technologies, Bupa ensures that all startups participating in the 2023 eco-Disruptive programme can access the Plug and Play ecosystem, offering networking and business opportunities.
