UK workers inspired by the Olympics to deliver gold-medal-winning work

A recent survey by monday.com, the multi-product platform that manages core work functions, revealed that the excitement surrounding the Olympics has significantly boosted workplace productivity in the UK. The poll of 2,000 UK workers showed that nearly two thirds (61%) felt inspired by the games to deliver more creative and innovative work.

The achievements of Team GB particularly resonate with employees, with over half (58%) motivated by gold medal wins to produce their own high-calibre work. More than two fifths (42%) of respondents believe that the Olympics enhances overall productivity in the workplace, driven by factors such as national pride (30%), teamwork and collaboration (29%), and the competitive spirit (22%).

To catch their favourite Olympic events, just over two thirds (67%) of UK workers would consider adjusting their work hours. Football (30%), athletics (28%), and swimming (23%) were the most popular sports influencing potential schedule changes. Additionally, 36% of workers would reschedule team meetings to watch the Olympics, viewing it as an opportunity to boost team morale. Millennials, in particular, are more likely (46%) than Baby Boomers (26%) to shift meetings to catch the action.

The Olympic spirit is most strongly embraced by younger generations. Three quarters (75%) of Gen Z workers feel inspired to improve their work after watching Team GB secure a podium finish, compared to 42% of Baby Boomers. Furthermore, 62% of Gen Z believe the Olympics positively impacts workplace productivity, with both Gen Z (77%) and Millennials (70%) striving to bring a medal-winning mentality to their work.

Ben Barnett, Regional Director at monday.com comments: "While most of us can only dream of winning a gold medal, it is encouraging to see the UK workforce taking inspiration from elite athletes who have embraced hard work, dedication, and resilience to reach the top of their game. As new generations enter the workforce, which is becoming more diverse, it's great to see how striving towards excellence and maintaining a resilient mindset becomes a source of inspiration that bridges the generational gap and has a positive impact on workplace spirit and productivity."
