Tilt raises $18M Series A led by Balderton Capital to revolutionise real time shopping

The Series A funding round, spearheaded by Balderton Capital and joined by existing investors TQ Ventures, Earlybird, and Seedcamp, marks a significant milestone for Tilt, a real-time shopping platform. Founded by former Revolut employees Neil Shah and Abhi Thanendran, Tilt is revolutionising the e-commerce landscape by positioning itself as the premier destination for fashion worldwide.

By reintegrating the human touch into online shopping, Tilt is transforming the digital marketplace into an authentic and engaging experience.

Tilt tackles several pressing issues in the current e-commerce environment. Traditional online shopping often feels detached and impersonal, leading to a passive and sometimes frustrating experience for consumers. The static nature of most e-commerce platforms fails to generate the urgency and engagement necessary to boost sales effectively.

Tilt changes this dynamic by allowing buyers to interact directly with sellers through real-time streams, enabling instant and synchronous communication. Much like the experience of in-store shopping, Tilt offers deals and promotions that are available only while users are actively engaged on the app, creating a dynamic, time-sensitive environment that encourages immediate purchases.

With features like auctions, boosts, and interactive events, Tilt has quickly gained traction, climbing to the top of the UK app charts, surpassing established names like Depop and eBay. In just a year since its launch, the platform has attracted over half a million users.

This latest round of funding will accelerate Tilt's journey towards becoming the leading fashion super app, offering a variety of real-time shopping formats, each with its own unique twist to help sellers move products quickly and buyers secure unbeatable deals.

Co-founder Neil Shah, who was the fifth employee at Revolut, played a pivotal role in the company’s international expansion and regulatory strategies. CEO and co-founder Abhi Thanendran, a former quant at hedge funds in New York, was one of Revolut’s earliest hires and its first data scientist, eventually leading the development of its data team.

"Tilt has an incredibly exciting journey ahead. We are thrilled to have the backing of the exceptional team at Balderton Capital, along with our existing investors in this round. This support will enable us to scale the Tilt platform, expand the team, and deepen our engagement with our growing community," said Abhi Thanendran, Co-Founder and CEO of Tilt.

"Our vision goes beyond simply enhancing the resale shopping experience; we are committed to building the most vibrant community in live commerce worldwide. This funding will ensure we innovate further, making each live stream not just a transaction, but a truly engaging and enjoyable experience,” said Neil Shah, Tilt Co-Founder.

Daniel Waterhouse, Partner at Balderton Capital said: "Tilt has cracked live shopping in the UK: Adding over half a million users within their first year of launch – something which many of the big players have failed at despite successes in Asia. With Neil and Abhi's relentless focus on innovative features and community engagement to deliver the best experiences for buyers and sellers alike, we're excited to work with the team to take Tilt to the next level.”
