Silverstone and tem partner to power new energy future for British motorsport

Silverstone, the home of British motorsport, has named tem, the energy transactions platform, as its Official Supporting Partner in a new multi-year deal that cements the world-class circuit’s position at the forefront of sustainable innovation in sport.

This partnership, announced off the back of the 2025 Formula 1 British Grand Prix, comes at a critical moment for the UK’s sports and leisure venues wrestling with volatile and elevated energy prices. Electricity costs in the UK remain among the highest globally, averaging around £258/MWh in 2023, driven by gas-dependent wholesale pricing and additional levies.

Tem’s technology allows businesses to mitigate the impact of volatile energy markets and bypass the wholesale market altogether. Tem launched RED to the market in late 2023, enabling businesses to get a fairer, cheaper price and transact directly with renewable generators.

As part of its Shift to Zero strategy, Silverstone began its contract with tem in 2024 to power its circuit, including the iconic Formula 1 British Grand Prix, and bring transparency and accountability to its energy supply.

Joe McDonald, CEO and Co-Founder of tem, said: “We set out to change the face of every energy-intensive industry reliant on a broken energy system, and today we’re taking that ambition all the way to one of the most celebrated innovators and icons in British sport. Being named as Silverstone’s Official Supporting Partner is more than a milestone; it’s a reminder of what’s possible when energy works as it should. We’re proud to power the full Silverstone experience, from the drivers on tracks to the teams' back of house and the fans in the stands, while helping the sport cut costs, track more, and reinvest into its future. We believe energy shouldn’t just be a cost you have to swallow; it should be something businesses can use to move faster. That’s what we’re here to do, not just for Silverstone, but across all British sport.”

Stuart Pringle, Chief Executive Officer at Silverstone, said, “One of the biggest sustainability challenges the sporting industry faces today is energy affordability and transparency. For large venues like Silverstone, it’s essential to understand exactly where our power comes from – and how it’s contributing to our environmental goals. Through our partnership with tem, we’ve been able to match our electricity usage directly with UK-based renewable generators and reduce our carbon footprint.”
