Litera boosts legal workflows with GenAI features and Microsoft integration

Litera, a prominent provider of legal technology, unveiled a range of substantial updates and new features to its software suite, now incorporating more advanced integrations and user-friendly generative AI (GenAI) tools.

With a focus on delivering seamless, integrated experiences across various devices, Litera aimed to align with the current needs of legal professionals. For nearly three decades, these innovations have further solidified Litera's role in driving change within the legal industry.

“With the launch of Litera Add-in in both Microsoft Word and Outlook, our core enhancements in Drafting and the expansion of Dragon and Kira, Litera is innovating squarely at the intersection of the business and practice of law – something no one else in this industry is doing,” said Litera CEO Sheryl Hoskins. “When it comes to innovation, we want to enhance every part of the lawyer workflow from drafting and contract review to knowledge management and business development.”

Litera has redefined how legal professionals interact with key drafting, contract review, and firm performance tools by integrating them seamlessly within Microsoft Office. The Litera Add-in streamlines a firm's technology ecosystem, offering enhanced workflows and insights that boost drafting efficiency. This add-in, accessible on any device with an Internet connection, is available for Microsoft Word and Outlook. In Word, the beta version currently supports proofreading and document comparison, while the Outlook version includes metadata cleaning features. Looking ahead, Litera plans to introduce more comprehensive document drafting, AI-driven contract review, and search functionalities throughout 2024 and 2025. Since deepening its collaboration with Microsoft in May, Litera aimed to extend core workflows across its drafting suite and integrate additional generative AI capabilities, including integration with Copilot, to drive new business opportunities and improve client satisfaction.

Litera has broadened the capabilities of Foundation Dragon, initially introduced earlier this year, by adding a new Real Estate Purchase Agreement deal type. Foundation Dragon enhances client service by providing data-driven insights that give lawyers a competitive advantage in negotiations, offering a thorough 360-degree understanding of market trends. Litera's strategy involved collaborating with in-house industry experts and clients to create a detailed set of deal points tailored to specific practice areas. This approach allows firms to leverage ready-made industry-standard templates across various legal domains, avoiding the complexities of maintaining custom solutions over time. The M&A profile within Foundation Dragon was designed to align with the ABA's M&A deal point study, ensuring it meets rigorous standards. As Foundation Dragon evolves, it will include more document types, such as credit agreements and venture capital documents, empowering lawyers to advise clients confidently, approach negotiations strategically, and efficiently identify precedents for future deals.

Kira’s new Rapid Clause Analysis provides turbo-powered comparisons and actions on clauses across documents or selected templates in one step. With Rapid Clause Analysis, legal teams can instantly identify identically drafted clauses across all documents in a project; simultaneously take actions that apply to all identically drafted clauses, such as tagging, flagging, and generating summaries. This breakthrough feature allows lawyers to further accelerate their contract review process and flag potential issues across a broader document set more quickly. Rapid Clause Analysis will be available to all Kira customers at the end of August.
