Ferne McCann's latest venture, Shoorah, the mental health app

Mental health is a huge challenge globally, with more people struggling with how they feel mentally and emotionally. It’s more important than ever that there are as many tools available to support people’s mental health. That’s where this tech startup comes in, transforming the way you feel both mentally and physically through meditation.

Shoorah Co-Founders, and partners, Lorri Haines and Ferne McCann share a passion for self-development, bonding over this and the challenges and experiences they’d been through in life and the things that helped.

Best known for being a TV personality, Ferne has always been open and honest about her own mental health journey. Having been in therapy for six years, she believes it’s her duty to share her journey in the hopes of combating the stigma around mental health treatment.

Co-Founder and COO Ferne McCann said: “All of the functions and features on the app have been proven over many years to improve mental health and, as someone who has used them all to turn around my own wellbeing, we know they absolutely work.

“We want to show people that wellbeing tools don’t have to be intimidating, or expensive, or time-consuming. With Shoorah™, you can meet all of your wellness needs in a simple, convenient way that fits into your life, whatever you’ve got going on, and wherever you are.”

Shoorah is a fresh and comprehensive wellbeing app supporting your mental health and nourishing your wellbeing through a range of wellness tools.

“We compared the different wellbeing apps we used on our phones and talked about the things we liked about them and the things we felt were missing. And from there we really felt we could create a wellbeing app that had all of the tools from these other apps, and more, within one place, so you no longer need to have one app for one thing and one for another.

“And that was really where Shoorah was born - out of our own passion for self-development and well-being and a drive to create something that built on what was out there already,” explained Lorri.

Shoorah is a one-stop-shop for wellbeing tools so you no longer need to rely on multiple apps. Everything is in one place, whether it’s journalling, meditation, breathwork, affirmations, rituals, life and behaviour cleansing, or out mini pods which are delivered by the team of wellbeing professionals.

“We wanted to achieve is to make it all simple……wellbeing can be an overwhelming space and we wanted to simplify it so that it works for people who have never focused on their wellbeing before as well as those who are more seasoned at it,” exclaims Lorri.

The Shoorah team want to help people realise that there are steps to take, tools to use, and people to reach out to, even during the hardest times in life. “We want people to feel supported and to know how to help themselves and we’re really proud that Shoorah can help with that,” says Lorri.

Facing challenges every day

Lorri highlights the highs and lows of the process: “Every day brings a new challenge! Ferne and I have both run businesses in the past but this is our biggest and most exciting venture yet. It’s nerve-wracking of course, and there’s loads to learn along the way and obstacles to overcome….but we’re absolutely loving it and embracing the process. And we’re really proud of what we’ve created.”

One thing’s for sure. Shoorah have epic plans over the next few years and hope to harness the opportunities within new technology and AI and expand its presence around the world.

“We are doing a crowdfund with Seedrs this summer to help support our future plans, which is really exciting and it’s great to be working with them. Basically we want to reach as many people as we can to help them prioritise their wellbeing in a way that fits into their life, and helps them feel the way they want to feel,” says Lorri.

With over 6,000 downloads in the first week alone, it’s clear the stripped back approach to mental health care has been a success.

Shoorah has also partnered with private investment platform Seedrs to raise £250,000.  The public are invited to own 6-9% of its shares through a fundraising round, with the pre-registration period running from 31May to 7 June. The raise will help support the company’s future growth plans which include the introduction of AI and global expansion.
