Definely secures Innovate UK grant to accelerate AI-driven growth in legaltech

Definely, a LegalTech firm based in the UK, recently secured a £585,000 grant from Innovate UK to propel its AI-driven solutions for the legal sector.

This funding follows closely on the heels of strategic investment from Raine Ventures and a Series A funding round in May. It will be used to develop new generative AI products aimed at simplifying access to and comprehension of legal document information.

Nnamdi Emelifeonwu, CEO and Co-Founder of Definely, commented: "This grant from Innovate UK is a testament to our mission of simplifying the way the legal world understands information. The project will allow us to invest further in the development of leading technology innovations, with AI at the core, to create solutions that make life easier, more efficient, and more competitive for legal professionals by simplifying the process of reviewing documents. We’re grateful to Innovate UK for their confidence in our roadmap and are excited to see the plans come to fruition.”

Innovate UK, a segment of UK Research and Innovation, acts as the nation’s innovation agency, aiding businesses in growth through the development and commercialisation of new products, processes, and services within a robust technological framework.

The grant will expedite Definely's research and development in generative AI, with a particular focus on addressing key pain points for legal professionals. This initiative aligns with Definely's long-term ambition to evolve from a product-based company to a provider of innovative digital solutions, extending its reach beyond the legal industry.

Definely already collaborates with a strong list of UK and international clients, including top-tier law firms and Fortune 500 companies such as A&O Shearman, Slaughter and May, Womble Bond Dickinson, Dentons, Eversheds Sutherland, DLA Piper, Deloitte, and Barclays. The Definely team is actively innovating to tackle the significant challenges faced by legal professionals today, with increasing adoption across organisations aimed at enhancing work efficiency and accuracy.

"We are always keen to explore new ways to improve the quality, consistency and speed of our delivery for clients. The challenge is always getting busy lawyers to find the time to try something new.” Says Sam Dixon, Partner, Womble Bond Dickinson. “So how refreshing it has been to find a tool which meets lawyers where they are already working, can be used out of the box, delivers really obvious value every day and that lawyers actually want to use.”
