3 ways to maximise your entrepreneurial mindset
Compassion, resilience, self-awareness, and belief are all characteristics of a successful entrepreneur. Jaz Broughton is on a mission to empower 10,000 to follow their goals, and realise that ambition is not a dirty word, and being a high achiever isn’t a bad thing.
In fact, nobody should care more about your ambition than you. As an entrepreneur, you MUST keep showing up, despite what is thrown your way. Giving up is the easy option.
Everyone has a mindset, but not everyone is consciously aware of its effect on daily life. It is the underlying mechanism that exposes opportunities, ignites ambition and allows us to flourish in all aspects of life. On the other hand, our mindset can hinder our ability to grow and perform, blocking out potential opportunities.
Let’s start with the basics. A mindset is a cognitive belief system made of interrelated beliefs, assumptions and knowledge that we use to process information, inform decisions and guide behaviour.
Undertaking an entrepreneurial mindset drives entrepreneurial behaviour, thus assisting you to reach your business goals.
It is a set of skills and way of thinking enabling people to identify and make the most of opportunities, overcome and learn from setbacks, and succeed. Holding this mindset gives you the desire to constantly improve your skills, learn from mistakes and take continuous action on your ideas.
Belief
Confidence is a skill that will put you on track to accomplish everything you want in life. It might seem difficult to act confidently when sometimes you don’t know what you’re doing. It’s important here to learn to act with confidence and remember it’s okay to not know what you’re doing 100% of the time.
You aren’t born being able to ace public speaking or knowing how to create a knockout pitch to investors. It is learned, and the difference between success and failure can be due to acting confidently.
Instead of waiting around for the right time to do something. Just go for it. Start that podcast, write that blog post and pitch that idea. Sometimes, no amount of preparation is enough to make you feel secure and ready, so just go for it.
Pretending you are good at something will enable you to do it confidently enough times until you become good at it. You know what they say, practice makes perfect.
Resilience
Making mistakes and failing are an inevitable part of being an entrepreneur. Success isn’t linear. Resilience allows you to think, act iteratively and adjust along the way.
If the last three years have shown us anything, its that the world is unpredictable. Whether it’s due to a global pandemic, personal trauma or not securing that funding you hoped, you’ll face disruption.
Self-awareness
This includes something as simple as figuring out when you operate at your best and when productivity is highest and building a routine around this. If you’re a morning person and can smash out 3 hours of work before it’s 10am, fantastic. Equally, if you thrive whilst operating as a night owl, that’s okay too.
Jaz highlighted a few ways to grow awareness of your mindset, including utilising your connections and building a circle of support.
Get going
Mastering your entrepreneurial mindset is far from easy, but the best thing to do is begin the journey.
