Leslie Uzan

Leslie joined St. James’s Place in 2014, initially in the actuarial team but then transitioned to specialise in Alternative Investments. As the current Head of Alternative Investments, she manages a team of analysts who monitor over £7bn of AUM (Assets Under Management). Aside from her role, she is passionate about promoting diversity in the industry and financial education. She has been involved in mentoring and public speaking with the 30% Club and the Diversity Project, and also founded St. James’s Place official professional women’s network. Most recently, Leslie was a finalist in the Investment Week Women in Investment Awards 2020 and highly commended at the Professional Adviser Women in Financial Advice Awards 2020. Outside of work, Leslie is a keen runner and has a passion for travel.

Five steps to securing funding for your business

Whilst the UK is home to a large number of innovative startups, and has even been proclaimed the ‘unicorn’ capital of Europe, it also has a disappointingly high gender funding gap. According to a report commissioned by the British Business Bank, for every £1 of VC investment, less than 1p went to all-female teams and only 10p to mixed-gender teams. The initial reaction may be to point fingers at the VC industry, however interestingly the report also noted that in fact only 5% of all pitchdecks received are from all-female teams.
