John O’Beirne

John O’Beirne is CEO of Square International, at Block, Inc. In his role at Square, John helps ensure that customer-friendly technology can provide growth opportunities to European businesses of all sizes, so that business owners and leaders never miss a sale. Prior to joining Block in 2023, John gained over 20 years of experience in the financial services industry including roles as CEO of Bank of Ireland Mortgage Bank and Director of Business Banking. Having witnessed how legacy systems constrain innovation and inclusion, he has championed large scale digital transformation including reducing mortgage approval times from months to minutes. He is currently Chair of the Fintech and Payments Association (FPAI) focused on growing Ireland as a base from which to scale globally, and a board member of Dublin Chamber.
