Bala Chandran

Lumo is a travel technology company that uses AI to predict flight delays. Lumo helps travellers, agencies, airlines, and everyone in the travel industry plan for and proactively manage flight disruptions. Bala is equal parts aviation geek and data nerd, and was named to the Skift 2018 Corporate Travel Innovators List. Bala holds a PhD from the University of California at Berkeley, where he worked on (among other things) algorithms to optimize airspace traffic flows, and has authored several academic papers on the subject. He hopes to learn to fly some day.

If I said the words travel technology to you, what springs to mind? Booking.com? Uber? TripAdvisor? But what about business travel technology? In 2022, the UK’s business travel sector was valued at £27.5 billion, and around 9 million Brits travel on business every year, so, it’s an important question as the tech impacts not only the travellers, but also the corporates and travel management companies responsible for managing their trips and keeping them safe.
