Zero raises £1.5M with help of crowdfunding
Cardiff-based B Corp and sustainable money app, Zero, has raised £1.5 million in its latest funding round including crowdfunding via Crowdcube – surpassing its original crowdfunding target by 44%. This investment fuels Zero's mission to transform everyday banking for the UK’s growing community of climate-conscious consumers, estimated at over 11 million under-35s.
With more than 3,500 customers already registered, Zero is building momentum since its full launch in January 2025, providing a debit card, personal account, and an app designed to put the planet at the heart of money management.
Unique to Zero is GreenScore, an innovative tool that helps customers easily track the environmental impact of their spending — both on Zero and linked accounts via Open Banking. Unlike other carbon calculators, GreenScore distils complex carbon data into a simple, intuitive score, helping users make sense of their footprint. Future developments will expand this to incorporate additional environmental factors and offer access to climate-positive solutions directly in the app.
The successful funding round will enable Zero to enhance its product, scale its team, and invest in targeted marketing to drive broader adoption. Zero also launched its innovative Community Share Option Scheme, sharing 20% of the company's value with its customers – making Zero not just a financial services provider, but a community-owned movement.
Richard Theo, Co-Founder and CEO of Zero and founder of Wealthify, ActiveQuote, and Fintech Wales, commented: "We're incredibly proud of the belief our investors and community have shown in Zero. This funding allows us to accelerate growth, deliver the features our customers want, and scale our impact. We’re here to prove that money, when used consciously, can be a force for good for people and the planet."
Why it matters:
- 61% of people believe banks should actively fight climate change, yet less than half feel their current bank is doing enough
- 59% want their money to be used in ways that help the environment
Zero is stepping up to meet this demand with a fresh, purpose-driven alternative.
