Volt and ekko Team Up for Real-Time Ocean Plastic Removal Tracking

Volt, a player in global real-time payments, has announced a partnership with ekko, a fintech focused on embedded sustainability.

This collaboration offers a unique feature at the checkout: consumers and retailers can contribute to removing plastic bottles from the ocean, with the impact tracked in real-time.

When customers select Volt as their payment method, they have the option to remove a plastic bottle from the ocean. A real-time counter, which updates with each completed payment, shows the cumulative number of bottles removed. This feature not only provides immediate feedback on the environmental impact of the payment but also assists merchants in enhancing their sustainability strategies.

Through this partnership, ekko gains access to Volt's extensive real-time payments network, extending its reach across the UK, Europe, Brazil, and Australia. This alliance strengthens ekko's role as a prominent sustainability partner for major global businesses, financial institutions, retailers, and employers.

Following its recent expansion in Australia, Volt's collaboration with ekko represents a significant milestone in its growth. Earlier in the year, Volt raised $60 million in a Series B funding round, joining other prominent partners like Primer, Shopify, and Worldpay.

The partnership reflects Volt's dedication to positive environmental change and simplifies the integration of sustainable practices into retail checkouts, made possible by ekko's measurement technology.

Jordan Lawrence, Chief Growth Officer and Co-founder of Volt, expressed his enthusiasm: “I am incredibly excited by what this partnership will bring. The environment is very close to my and Volt’s heart, and solutions like ekko’s help to make the real difference that we believe our sector should strive to do. Combining real-time payments with real-time environmental capabilities is the perfect marriage; I’m thrilled for Volt users to gain an accurate representation of the difference they’re making to the planet.”

Oli Cook, CEO and Co-founder of ekko, also commented on the collaboration: “We have an incredible role to play in fighting the climate crisis, as financial services impact nearly everything we do. We have an opportunity to mobilise people and businesses from every walk of life to do good and to make environmentally friendly choices. Working with Volt allows us to expand the horizons of our offering, reaching customers across the world and ultimately increasing support for environmental causes by bringing our real-time tracking capabilities to payments worldwide.”
