Tackling gender disparity in technology – Reed’s Women in Technology Mentoring Programme

Reed has announced an exciting new partnership with career coaching platform Propelelo.

Through Reed’s established Women in Technology Mentoring Programme, this partnership will work toward advancing the careers of women in the technology industry.

Research shows that only 26% of the technology workforce are women; more shockingly, women that reach senior positions are scarce, with only 3% of CTO (chief technology officer) or technical director roles being filled by women.

This partnership aims to change that by empowering more women to take control of their careers in an industry that is typically male-orientated via mentoring and career coaching.

Reed’s free Women in Technology Mentoring Programme connects women at any stage of their technology career with external mentors who provide tailored guidance and support. This programme helps mentees realise their full potential and achieve their personal and professional goals.

Now working alongside Propelelo, Reed’s Women in Technology Mentoring Programme will combine mentorship and career coaching to help them succeed in the industry, offering more avenues for mentees to develop their tech careers in a way that suits them. The programme will now involve a wide range of live events, on-demand content and community support, to propel confidence, capability and the careers of women working in the technology sector.

Commenting on this announcement, Kevin Dainty, Founder of Reed’s Women in Technology Mentoring Programme, said, "It is far from a secret that the technology industry is advancing at an unprecedented rate. There are more and more jobs surfacing in the technology sector, so there remains to be ample opportunities for those interested in the industry to flourish in their tech career. It is disheartening, however, to see that despite the movement and growth in the sector, there aren’t many women progressing to senior roles. With that in mind, we launched the mentoring programme to tackle this disparity and we are thrilled to now be partnering with Propelelo to enhance our unique programme for women in technology. There is nothing else like this on the market, and we can't wait to see the impact it has on the careers of the women who participate."

Helen Tinnelly, Founder and CEO of Propelelo added, "We are excited to join forces with the Reed Women in Technology Mentoring Programme to provide women in tech with the support and resources they need to succeed.

“This is a fast-paced, creative industry, and we’re here to support more women to thrive in it."
