Sixth Sense Summit 2024 Startup Pitching Competition

At Sixth Sense Summit 2024, Hexagon’s third cohort of eight scaling startups went head-to-head in the pitching competition. These startups are focused on two key challenge areas: “Building a sustainable manufacturing future” and “Smart digital reality for collaborative manufacturing.”

In this article, we will introduce all of these startups, and reveal the winner of the competition.

Zaptic

Zaptic is a startup that specialises in providing enterprise software solutions designed to enhance operational efficiency and workforce productivity, particularly within the manufacturing, retail, and consumer goods sectors. The company's platform leverages the power of digital technology to streamline communication, workflow management, and process execution across various levels of an organisation.

The core of Zaptic's offering is its digital platform that facilitates the creation of customisable, mobile-first applications tailored to specific operational needs. This platform enables companies to digitise and standardise operating procedures, ensuring that best practices are followed consistently across all locations and teams.

Launchpad

Launchpad was founded by three entrepreneurs, who independently experienced the challenges and delays of manufacturing new hardware. Believing in a better way, the founders looked to use AI and advanced simulation technologies to automate portions of the design, procurement, and manufacturing process.

Launchpad believes that mass customisation, micro-factories, and software-defined robotics define the future of manufacturing. All of these strategies offer value by making supply chains shorter, reducing waste, and meeting the customer’s desire for new features, faster.

Dessia

Dessia operates at the intersection of AI and engineering design, offering solutions that revolutionise how engineers and designers approach complex problems in product development. By leveraging AI, Dessia's platform automates engineering design processes, enabling professionals to explore a wider array of design options and optimise solutions faster than traditional methods allow.

Its AI-driven platform employs algorithms to generate, evaluate, and optimise designs across various parameters and constraints. This approach accelerates the design process, but also uncovers solutions that might not be immediately apparent through conventional engineering methods.

Rafinex

Rafinex is a startup that operates at the forefront of computational engineering and risk management, offering advanced solutions that aim to revolutionise the way industries manage the complexity and uncertainty inherent in engineering design and optimisation processes. The company leverages cutting-edge algorithms and computational techniques to provide tools that enable more efficient, precise, and risk-aware engineering decisions.

At the heart of Rafinex's offering is its commitment to addressing the challenges posed by the stochastic nature of engineering problems. Traditional engineering design processes often rely on deterministic models that might not fully account for the variability and unpredictability of real-world conditions. Rafinex's technology incorporates methods that consider a wide range of possible scenarios and outcomes, allowing for the design of products and systems that are robust and resilient under a variety of conditions.

ToffeeX

ToffeeX is a startup in the physics-driven generative design space. Its AI-powered software uses physics to guide the design process, empowering engineers to create optimised products that meet all of their constraints, in only a matter of hours. ToffeeX is used by some of the world's leading engineering organisations in order to accelerate their path to sustainability.

ToffeeX lets the user adjust for their preferred process, taking into account the characteristics and limitations of each method, including stamping, milling, 3D printing and more.

Acerta

Acerta is a technology startup that works in the realm of AI and Machine Learning, with a particular focus on the automotive industry. Its mission is to harness the power of AI and ML to enhance the quality and reliability of manufacturing processes, thus reducing waste and improving efficiency. Acerta's solutions are designed to predict and identify potential defects or failures in vehicle systems and manufacturing equipment, well before these issues can affect product quality or production continuity.

The company's flagship product is an analytics platform that leverages AI to analyse vast amounts of data generated during the manufacturing process. This platform is capable of detecting anomalies and patterns that may indicate a problem, allowing manufacturers to preventively address issues before they escalate into costly defects or recalls.

Flexxbotics

Flexxbotics has made significant strides in the field of robotics and automation, in particular, focusing on enhancing the capabilities and efficiency of industrial robots. Founded with the mission to bridge the gap between robotic innovations and practical applications in manufacturing environments, Flexxbotics develops solutions that aim to make robotic systems more flexible, accessible, and user-friendly for small to medium-sized manufacturing companies.

The core offerings of Flexxbotics include advanced software platforms and hardware accessories designed to improve the functionality and interoperability of industrial robots.

RV Magnetics

RV Magnetics has made significant advancements in the field of microsensor technology. The company's work centres around the development of its MicroWire technology, a type of highly sensitive, miniaturised sensor capable of measuring a wide array of physical quantities such as temperature, pressure, magnetic field, and mechanical stress with exceptional precision and in real-time.

The unique selling point of RV Magnetics' MicroWire sensors lies in their petite size, which allows them to be embedded into a variety of materials and objects without altering their structural integrity or functionality. This versatility opens up a myriad of applications across various industries, including healthcare, automotive, aerospace, and consumer electronics, among others.

And the winner is…

Every startup that pitched at Sixth Sense Summit was worthy of winning, but the judges had the final decision to make…

The runner up of the pitching competition was Ascerta.

And the TWO worthy winners were Flexxbotics and Zaptic!

Congratulations to all who took part.
