SHIFT BUSINESS FESTIVAL 2022 FOCUSES ON CLIMATE CHANGE
SHIFT Business Festival 2022 will be held in Turku, Finland on August 24-25th. One of the main themes of this year's event is climate change. This current topic is approached from the perspective of innovation and technological development, looking for new solutions together.
Focus on innovative solutions
When talking about climate change, there is no longer any doubt that we have a crisis on our hands. "When we started planning SHIFT 2022, there was a lot of talk about the climate crisis and how the theme could be handled in a constructive way," says Elsa Ervasti, SHIFT's Head of the Program.
The biggest crisis often presents the biggest opportunities. "The inevitable change requires that we focus on innovative ways to navigate through the crisis," says Ervasti. At SHIFT, we look for solutions to create a sustainable future for our planet and us. The climate crisis is tackled by promoting the discussion on how to be part of the solution through innovation and technology.
Discussion from diverse perspectives, even from the space
On the first day of SHIFT, astrophysicist and researcher Sissi Enestam discusses climate change and space technology. Enestam is reviewing new approaches to studying the effects of global warming and finding solutions, e.g. with the help of space technology.
Merit Valdsalu, CEO of the deep-tech start-up Single.Earth, will talk on the second day about how to move from a world economy based on economic growth to a model which respects nature's carrying capacity, or as Valdsalu puts it, "makes nature the new gold".
Climate change is also the theme of panel discussions. For example, in the energy transition panel, Kalle Saarimaa (Fortum), Pekka Peljo (University of Turku), Olli Lappalainen (Compensate) and Julia Badeda (ABO Wind) bring to the discussion new ways of thinking and acting in the midst of the climate crisis. The panel is moderated by Arto Sivonen (Måndag).
Invitation to the media
We warmly welcome media representatives interested in SHIFT 2022 themes to the media event on August 24th at 12am at Hotel Kakola. Accredited media representatives are also welcome to join the festival August 24-25th.
