PITCH AT MED-TECH WORLD SUMMIT BY SiGMA

Acceptance is the first step to change. Change that at the moment is needed in the world of health tech to continue to foster innovation and enable accelerated growth in start-ups looking to improve our health.

Dylan and Ryan, both medical doctors by profession, have been in healthcare for some years now and that they have both indeed experienced the pains that have been plaguing healthcare providers since the start.

Demand for healthcare is increasing rapidly with an inevitable increase in the complexity of the disease. The global population is not only ever increasing but also getting older. To top off all of this, we are not training enough doctors, nurses and other healthcare professionals. On the contrary, some are leaving the profession entirely. When we first set foot in the health tech industry, we immediately understood that here lies the ability in returning the balance in our favour. Startups are rising to the challenge and many are tackling various bits and bobs within the healthcare cogwheel to make it move as smoothly as possible. Yet, startups are not easily trusted in an industry in which there is inherent caution and resistance to change.

This is what we're trying to tackle through our philosophy with the Med-Tech World Summit. Healthcare needs startups as much as any other industry to move forward, change with the times and provide a safe and efficient service. Whilst acknowledging that stakes are higher and that device/software safety and rigour should be prioritised this does not mean that healthcare should shut the door completely because institutions are set in their ways.

One of the solutions to this is to give startups the global stage to express themselves and showcase their product. To prove their concept or prove that their product works. Allowing startups to meet up with the relevant stakeholders, be it universities, hospitals or private clinics where they can test or implement their product in a sheltered place or otherwise. Getting startups to meet investors who can choose to support their product or experts who can help steer them in the right direction. After all, all the companies that we have become accustomed to in our day to day in healthcare such as the likes of GE, 3M or J&J were all once a startup.

Med-Tech World lets startups do all of this under one roof. Because we believe in the value that startups add to the Healthcare Cog.  We actively provide opportunities for startups to meet key stakeholders which may include other start-ups in the healthcare industry who can help drive their products including pitching opportunities. We're proud of the fact that although still in its infancy Med-Tech World has already brought together hundreds of startups globally together and we looking to up the ante on that.

Our roadshow started in Dubai in March, goes to Toronto in June and Belgrade in August. We're planning to double the countries we'll be in next year and whilst some like Dubai or Toronto are traditionally associated with the health tech startup sphere, we want to expand beyond that. We're planning to go to Nairobi in 2023 because we believe that the health tech revolution is happening everywhere and we can shed a light on companies that at this moment might not have the necessary resources to shine a spotlight on themselves thereby stunting their growth. Our roadshow serves for us to identify startups that can change healthcare through technology and help accelerate them through our ever-increasing network.

We invite you to join us in Malta this November for the culmination of a series of roadshow events. What can you expect? A health and technology festival that connects the world's digital health industry. Two days full of networking and unique content centred around bustling exhibitions by our sponsors.
