Ox Delivers aims to double UK workforce

OX Delivers has announced plans to nearly double its UK workforce, initiating a recruitment drive for various skilled roles at its West Midlands headquarters. This expansion aligns with the company's next phase in developing its next-generation electric truck, where these roles will be key to scaling up continuous truck production.

The company aimed to fill positions such as Commercial Lead, Electrical Systems and Powertrain Lead Engineers, Senior Mechanical Design Engineers, Vehicle Assembly Team Lead, and Test Engineers. Additionally, Buyers and Business Development Analysts were being sought.

Natalie Dowsett, CCO and Co-Founder of OX Delivers, said: “We are creating a world-class team to deliver our mission to revolutionise the way the Global South does business. We have spent the past four years developing and validating our technology, building our infrastructure and proving out the as-a-Service model. Now, we are significantly expanding our UK team to deliver the next exciting phase of development of our all-electric truck and getting prepared for continuous truck build next year.

“At OX Delivers, we're supercharging African trade by improving access to clean, reliable, affordable transport in underserved markets. We are seeking passionate individuals with a desire to shape the future of transportation and develop ground-breaking technology to improve people’s lives.”

Karolina Yeong, Principal Engineer at OX Delivers, said, "Working at OX Delivers is incredibly fulfilling. Getting to tackle complex technical challenges and having the opportunity to innovate cutting-edge solutions that transform into real-world impact is hugely rewarding. Being part of the OX team has provided a refreshing, new perspective on work culture and teamwork."

For under $1, an OX Delivers customer can move a sack of goods to market, even on the poor-quality roads commonly found in the Global South. This service, provided through OX Delivers' transport-as-a-service model, completes the journey in hours rather than the days it would take on foot or by bicycle. By enabling farmers and traders to reach more distant markets with higher prices and new opportunities, the model not only generates profit for OX Delivers but also fosters a cycle of economic and social growth within local communities.

With its innovative approach, OX Delivers charges customers based only on the space they need, calculated per kilogram-kilometre. The service is easily accessible through an app or a toll-free number. Since launching its pilot operation in Rwanda in 2021, OX has experienced significant demand, now supporting over 5,000 customers, including smallholder farmers and traders. Impressively, 80% of orders come from repeat customers. In the first quarter of this year, the company recorded its strongest performance since the pilot began, generating $262,000 in revenue between January and March 2024.

The original OX Truck, designed by Professor Gordon Murray in 2016, marked a milestone as the world's first flat-pack truck and the first vehicle specifically created for Africa in forty years. Since then, the OX team has continuously refined the design, evolving it into the first electric truck tailored for the Global South. This next-generation truck is ten times cheaper to operate than existing alternatives and is set to transform transport services across the continent.

With the introduction of this advanced truck, OX Delivers aims to expand its impact throughout East Africa and beyond, targeting the three billion people in developing countries who currently lack access to affordable, sustainable transport.
