More than a bank: bunq revolutionises charitable giving using FinTech
European challenger bank bunq today joins forces with global charities to aid its mission to make the world a better place. Following a public beta programme, which saw bunq ask its users to share their insights and to test its new app before rolling out to the masses, bunq is now unveiling ‘Common Goals’.
The move comes as part of bunq’s most radical update yet unveiling its ‘swiss army knife style’ approach to banking, and, of course, always keeping it’s users at the heart of its update.
Ali Niknam, founder and CEO of bunq said: “We asked our users for their feedback on our new app, and they didn’t disappoint. They told us they want a way to give back to the causes closest to their hearts with their like minded friends - and so Common Goals was born.”
Users can create a Common Goal whenever they want, for anything they want and instantly share it with anyone: friends, family, colleagues, loved ones, everyone can donate. Through the app, users are always up to date on how much has been raised, and can even see the total donations given by the entire bunq community.
Niknam continued: “At bunq we’re not just a bank - we’re here to make our user’s lives easier, and leave the world in a better place than when we started. That’s why we have partnered with five amazing charities with this launch.”
Along with the ability to create and support their own cause, bunq has also partnered with global charities and users are now able to donate directly through the bunq app:
- One Acre Fund - Most of the world's poorest people are small-scale farmers. One Acre Fund has developed a unique solution to enable families to grow their way out of hunger and poverty. With significantly higher crop yields, they can build new prosperous lives.
- Free a Girl - Free a Girl fights the commercial sexual exploitation of children by rescuing them out of prostitution, raising awareness among communities and actively help those susceptible to human trafficking and vulnerable families by guiding them towards a better future and providing education.
- Terre des Hommes - Fights against child abuse, (online) sexual exploitation, child trafficking and child labour to ensure children can develop to their full potential in a safe environment.
- Salt Farm Foundation - Shares and develops open-source and practical knowledge on salt-tolerant crops and saline agriculture methods with farmers worldwide, in an effort to combat salinisation and to improve food security, with minimal impact on already scarce fresh water supplies.
- LittleBitz - LittleBitz is the easy and effective way of giving. All little bits together make a big difference. LittleBitz introduces direct giving of small amounts to those who need it most. Enabling them to build a better future. Cash travels fast and is cost-effective, stimulates local economies and increases the financial independence of the recipient.
George Ooms, Team Lead Private Market, Terre des Hommes said: “Our goal is to stop child exploitation. A goal we can only realise with people and partners that are willing to make the change, who are committed to make the world a better place. And giving should always be easy. With its new feature Common Goals, bunq provides just that. A super easy tool that enables the public to engage with, give to and fundraise for charities. We are very happy to be part of the launch of Common Goals. Thank you bunq! Together we can stop child exploitation. Join the fight.”
