Kelpi unveils new kilo-lab facility

Kelpi is making waves in the sustainable packaging sector. The startup harnesses the power of seaweed to create bioplastic materials that challenge traditional, fossil-fuel-based plastics. These seaweed-derived coatings excel in providing robust barriers against water, oxygen, grease, and acids, making them ideal for a diverse range of packaging applications.

Kelpi is known for its focus on rapid prototyping and agile approach to meeting client requirements. Initially, Kelpi was hesitant to build an in-house scaleup facility that would transition production from the gram-scale of the lab to the next stage of taking its product to market. However, the full benefits of this decision became apparent once Kelpi began constructing and operating its ‘kilo-lab’.

The new kilo-lab isn't just about production; it's a hub of innovation. This facility allows Kelpi to fast-track its materials development roadmap by closely integrating production and applications testing. Tighter, more efficient feedback loops enable quick iteration on designs, testing new formulations, and bringing products to market faster than ever before. This accelerated development process ensures that Kelpi can meet the evolving needs of its packaging partners with groundbreaking solutions.

Beyond enhancing production and accelerating development, the kilo-lab brings significant cost savings. Previously, Kelpi relied on subcontractors for kilo-scale synthesis, which often involved high costs and longer timelines. By moving production in-house, it has reduced these expenses and can now deploy its resources more effectively.

Investing in the kilo-lab facility also underscores Kelpi's commitment to sustainability and innovation. The company believes the future of packaging lies in environmentally friendly, renewable materials that don't compromise on performance or cost. Kelpi's seaweed-derived biomaterials are set to replace single-use plastics across multiple industries, contributing to a cleaner, greener planet.

Kelpi is excited about the opportunities presented by its new kilo-lab. It embodies the company’s dedication to continuous improvement and its vision of a world where sustainable materials are the norm, not the exception.
