‘The Home of Parenting Experts’ Raises £1m
January 2022, Bloss the technology platform that connects users to parenting experts, raises £1million in a pre-seed round to launch the bloss app later this year, expand the team and accelerate it’s global trajectory.
The round is led by Antler, the global early-stage VC and backed by multiple impactful angel investors, including Silicon Valley serial entrepreneur, Narry Singh, prolific footballer, Andriy Shevchenko and British-Jamaican entrepreneur, Alexandra Chong.
With more than 95,000 users in 161 countries and over 200 experts since launching 6 months ago, bloss is fast becoming the largest expert network for parenting and offers easy, interactive access to professional advice for parents, carers and parents-to-be when they need help. Since it launched last June, bloss has seen 530% growth.
Bloss was founded during the pandemic by Uber’s first 100 employee and member of the UK founding team, Stephanie Desmond, whilst pregnant with her third child, after partnering with mummy influencer and media personality, Binky Felstead. Following Stephanie’s fertility struggles and multiple IVF rounds to get pregnant, she discovered there was no easy way of finding trusted expert advice. With 5 children between them, unable to get quick access to trusted and verified professionals, Steph and Binky decided to launch bloss, a one stop shop of experts with downloadable classes and advice, chat, booking options and products.
Parents can log into the chat and easily discover help by searching for an issue or asking any question. The backend matches them up with experts such as midwives, sleep consultants, nutritionists, and child psychologists, to answer their questions within 24 hours.
Co-founder and CEO, Stephanie Desmond commented: “People want help but they just don’t know where to get it - the internet is a minefield of bad advice so we make parenting that little bit easier by democratising access to hundreds of experts. From humble beginnings brainstorming around my kitchen table, we are now seeing a fast uptake of experts and users worldwide with an average growth of 88% month on month. Our goal is to help as many families as we can, at whatever life stage they are at. With the launch of the app, we hope to bring this even closer to reality. The positive feedback received from our community is why we’re doing this! “
Ollie Purdue, Antler VC Partner said: “We are really excited to be leading bloss’ pre-seed round. Steph has grown the business exceptionally well in this initial period and we are excited to put all of Antlers’ resources behind it to help it reach more parents around the world. We see bloss being such a valuable product to many homes and we look forward to seeing the positive impact it will have on families.”
Andriy and wife, Kris Shevchenko commented: “As parents of 4 boys, we wish bloss had been around when we were first having children, it would have made life so much easier when diagnosing and understanding our son’s autism. Excited to be supporting bloss from the side-lines, we know it’s going to bring so much good to many families worldwide''
Narry Singh said: “Steph’s drive to help parents and bloss’ quick growth signified to me that they have built a product that solves a big problem in the market.”
Alexandra Chong said: “Becoming a parent brings incredible joy, but it is not without its challenges. Having a trusted support network at your fingertips is just what every parent needs to truly relax and enjoy their parenting journey. bloss is just the tool to make this happen, and this makes me thrilled to be part of the bloss family.”
