Grace Beverley’s TALA secures £5M to support international expansion

Activewear brand TALA, founded by entrepreneur Grace Beverley and led by CEO Morgan Fowles, has successfully secured £5 million in new investment.

Pembroke VCT, which previously invested in TALA in 2021, demonstrated its continued confidence in the brand by leading this round with a £3 million contribution, joined by existing investors Venrex and Active Partners.

Over the past three years, since its last funding round, TALA has experienced substantial growth, with a tenfold increase in revenue. The brand has expanded its product range to include outerwear and shapewear, entered new markets, and developed new sales channels, all while maintaining profitability.

The newly acquired funds are earmarked for supporting TALA’s international expansion, particularly focusing on the US market, where the brand has seen significant customer interest and social media engagement. Additionally, TALA plans to explore the possibility of opening physical retail locations and to further enhance its infrastructure and team capabilities.

Since joining Pembroke's portfolio in 2021, TALA has exhibited a remarkable growth trajectory. This additional investment highlights Pembroke's confidence in TALA’s team and vision, reinforcing its role as a strategic partner in the brand’s next phase of growth.

The global athleisure market surpassed $360.04 billion in 2023, with the UK accounting for approximately 9.1% of this market. The growth trajectory is expected to continue, with disruptor brands like TALA driving the momentum.

Founded in 2019, TALA has leveraged a strong social media presence to achieve viral popularity and robust economic growth. The brand prides itself on being run by women, for women, with both its founder and CEO being female.

Andrew Wolfson, CEO of Pembroke VCT, commented: “Pembroke VCT's investment in TALA reaffirms our confidence in the brand's innovative approach and strong market appeal. Grace Beverley, Morgan Fowles and the team have a unique ability to tap into their consumer base, leveraging organic channels to expand TALA’s presence and reinforce its core values.  This investment will enable TALA to accelerate its expansion, enhance its product range, and strengthen its global market position. The global athleisure market is ripe for disruption from bold, young entrepreneurial brands, and TALA is well positioned to lead the way.”

Fred Ursell, Investment Director at Pembroke, commented: “We are thrilled to reaffirm our partnership with the exceptional team at TALA after three years of diligently pursuing this opportunity. Their profound understanding and engagement with their end customers has led to remarkable growth since our initial investment. TALA’s brand has also demonstrated the ability to transcend beyond its core categories of activewear, building products loved by customers in adjacent lines, including swimwear, accessories, loungewear, and more. We are excited about the future of the brand, as this investment will fund the expansion of sales channels and support the brand’s international growth."

Grace Beverley, Founder of TALA commented: "This new funding round led by Pembroke marks an incredibly exciting milestone in TALA's growth. The love and support from our customers as we've expanded into new categories and solidified our offerings have been nothing short of remarkable. I am incredibly excited for the next stage of our journey and look forward to continuing to disrupt the industry with well-thought-through wardrobe favourites and problem-solving pieces for women, by women."

Morgan Fowles, CEO of TALA commented: “The past 3 years have been a period of incredible growth for TALA and we're excited about the opportunities this round of investment creates to supercharge that growth. TALA has expanded and evolved in every way, made possible by the support of our investors, customers, and our team. There was a lot of investment interest in this fundraise, and in this climate successful businesses are thinking hard about whether they want to raise capital. But strategic partnership remains an unlock to even greater scale and we're excited to continue to scale TALA with Pembroke VCT, Venrex, and Active Partners.”
