Future Leaders scholarships up for grabs from LMF Network, Jolt and Balderton

Like Minded Females (LMF) Network joined efforts with online business school Jolt and technology venture firm, Balderton Capital to grant five Future Leaders scholarships to rising female tech talent from LMF’s community. The full bursaries will allow them to attend Jolt's Switch course, a programme designed to create pathways for those who want to begin a career in tech.

Starting on March 29th, the skill-building bootcamp will provide the recipients with 150 hours of online learning from industry professionals in leading startups and scaleups from all over the world. After completing the course, the five Future Leaders scholars will have gained tools, business skills, and career coaching to succeed in the tech environment.

"We're creating scholarships to our courses so that we can enable greater access to the tech sector for people from under-represented groups. Like Minded Females is an amazing community with an abundance of inspiring and rising female talent for whom we're excited to create opportunity," expressed Oliver Beach, UK General Manager and VP for Growth at Jolt.

Suranga Chandratillake, General Partner at Balderton Capital, mentioned: "The pandemic has brought about a huge amount of change for everyone. The technology sector has proved resilient and can provide opportunities for those who want to change their careers. By supporting the digital education of female talent, we wanted to allow them to take their future in their hands."

LMF’s Social Mobility Programme Report 2021 shows that those from marginalised communities are less likely to apply for roles due to a lack of confidence and career opportunities. The UK-based social enterprise is mitigating these challenges through this partnership.

"As a South Asian woman with little knowledge about the tech industry before joining. I know first-hand how uncomfortable and daunting it can be to enter a male-dominated sector. That is why we are always looking for ways to empower our community. We are sure the Switch course is another step into having more women in tech, entrepreneurship and digital," said Sonya Barlow, Founder of the LMF Network.

Jolt’s Switch course is open for UK and international professionals with some work experience, though not necessarily in the tech industry. Also, the flexibility of the programme enables professionals to keep working while boosting their skillset. It can be completed in four weeks full-time or two evenings a week for 15 weeks as part-time learning.
