Faircado will sell 10 million second-hand items to turn Christmas green

Faircado, a Berlin-based startup that provides the first AI-powered second-hand shopping assistance, announces the launch of its fashion apparel category.

Followed by electronics and books, its browser extension now gathers 10 million items including fashion apparel, bags, clothes, footwear and accessories, allowing easy access to sustainable shopping.

Faircado partners with over 30 marketplaces including Vestiaire Collective, eBay, Rebuy, Back Market, Vinokilo and Refurbed and gathers all offers in one place. Activated by installing a free browser extension, it displays second-hand alternatives to items shoppers are searching for online. Whenever a user searches online for a branded bag or jeans, for example, Faircado displays all second-hand options and bridges the user with the resale shop. It saves hours of search across multiple resale sites and eases the second-hand shopping experience.

“Clothing is the most popular Christmas gift, and its production makes up 10% of humanity's carbon emissions, dries up water sources, and pollutes rivers and streams. What's more, 85% of all textiles go to the dump each year. We believe that the best gift you can offer to your beloved is to make a positive contribution to the future of our planet. Nearly 2 in 3 consumers believe their individual consumption habits have a significant impact on the planet, and it’s a real opportunity for them to bring sustainability to Christmas shopping,” notes Evolena de Wilde d'Estmael, co-founder and CEO of Faircado.

The global fashion market was valued at a massive $1.7 trillion in 2022. Second-hand is expected to grow 127% by 2026. Online resale is the fastest-growing sector of second-hand and is expected to nearly quadruple by 2026. Among the top reasons for second-hand gifting are money saving and sustainability.
