The exciting new ‘home of hardware’ partnership

Innovation has never been more important, and in the current climate it is great to see six more startups join the latest CRL (Central Research Laboratory) accelerator programme, which, for the first time has attracted a major sponsor, Mouser Electronics.

Electronic components distributor Mouser have come together with CRL the UK’s first purpose-built hardware accelerator programme, in what seems a perfect collaboration as both have innovation at their heart.

Mouser, the New Product Introduction (NPI) leader empowering innovation will have a key role in the product development process as the company aims to provide support and services from its extensive network of supplier experts, with signposting within the CRL space guiding members to where they can find and benefit from the full range of Mouser services. Additionally, Mouser will also provide specific technological insights through open events and workshops, including CRL’s Demo Day in November, which provides an opportunity for applicants in each cohort to pitch and demonstrate their inventions to potential investors and partners.

Not just like any accelerator programme the CRL cohort leaves startups with outstanding design knowledge and a talent in engineering they may not have seen in themselves. Working on both the design and business aspects of product development, the programme is led by innovation and seeing some of the startups at the beginning of their journeys it is going to be very exciting to see some of the technologies come out of the other end.

Of course with a slight delay as COVID hit, neither CRL, Mouser or the startups seem to have let that affect them, and development continues moving full steam ahead. This partnership will leave the budding founders benefitting from the entrepreneurial advice and support with their commercial product ideas as well as giving them access to the essential manufacturing machinery and product hardware needed to make those ideas physically come to life.

CRL supports entrepreneurs at every stage of the journey, from concept development through prototyping and first batch production to scaling up for commercial orders. The incubator allows inventors to focus on growing their businesses by providing them with opportunities for mentoring and funding along the way.

“We are excited to be involved in this inspiring new partnership with CRL. After our first meeting with them three years ago, we knew CRL had the potential to help grow and encourage product innovation, and this is why they were selected for the partnership,” explained Mark Patrick, Technical Marketing Manager, EMEA Mouser Electronics. “As a global distribution company focused on empowering innovation, we are committed to helping hardware entrepreneurs and inventors reach commercial success. It is our mission to help makers and innovators, not only by empowering them with the widest range of components at their fingertips, but also by sharing practical expertise, tips and advice on electronics.”

Toby Kress, Managing Director of the CRL added “Many of our startups rely on Mouser for components as they develop their prototypes and products and we’re thrilled to be working with them in this new partnership to bring even more support to the innovators and inventors we support. I can’t wait to see the exciting startup successes that come out of this collaboration and be able to share their stories with the world”.
