Barclays boosts London’s tech ecosystem with Eagle Labs expansion

In a significant boost for London’s thriving tech sector, Barclays Eagle Labs is set to expand its footprint by partnering in seven sites across the city, designed to support tech startups and entrepreneurs on their growth journeys.

In addition to the existing lab in Chiswick, Eagle Labs will now be available to access in: Euston, Fulham, Hammersmith, Lambeth, Whitechapel, Wandsworth, and Wimbledon.

Barclays has also launched a dedicated London Growth Team, aimed at empowering small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to maximize their growth potential.  The new London Growth Team will comprise 12 specialised roles, focusing on the unique needs of SMEs as they seek to scale.

The Government has been clear that it aims to secure the highest growth in the G7, and has highlighted the importance of private sector support to deliver this. The expansion of these sites across London, with dedicated support for entrepreneurs, demonstrates Barclays are working hand in hand to deliver this mission.

The new London Growth team, headed up by Paul Elsey, will sit as part of the well-established Barclays London Business Bank.

Tony Geary, Head of Barclays Business Bank London said: “We are dedicated to supporting businesses at every stage of their growth journey and recognise London’s pivotal role as an engine in the UK economy. Our new team is here to ensure that businesses across all sectors in the capital receive the tailored support they need to thrive.”

Barclays Eagle Labs is recognised as a leading entrepreneurial network for tech businesses across the UK. The addition of these new Eagle Labs locations will bring the total number of Eagle Labs across the UK to 42.

Amanda Allan, Director of Barclays Eagle Labs, said: “The expansion of our Barclays Eagle Labs residence in the UK continues with new sites in London, demonstrating our commitment to supporting the tech sector, which will be vital for growth over the next decade. London is one of the major epicentres for the tech sector, not just in the UK but globally, and we want to ensure startups are given the best possible chance at success with access to our range of programs and networking events.”

The new labs were launched at an event in Marble Arch in London last night which was attended by many businesses who have benefitted from Barclays Eagle Labs support and London’s Deputy Mayor for Business and Growth, Howard Dawber.

Howard Dawber, London Deputy Mayor, Business and Growth said: “I am delighted to welcome Barclays Eagle Labs to new sites across London, which will help tech entrepreneurs and startups to achieve their full potential and maximise growth. The Mayor and I will continue to work together with London’s thriving tech community to build a fairer and more prosperous London for everyone.”
