ZOA announces new co-CEOs and revamped leadership, unveils strategy to ‘bring electrification home’
Zoa, the AI-powered consumer energy management platform, announced today a leadership change with Sara Brooks and Tom Fraine appointed as co-CEOs. Previously, Sara served as Chief Revenue Officer and Tom as Chief Operating Officer, both contributing significantly to the company's growth.
Sara and Tom bring over 35 years of combined experience from innovative, high-growth companies in the utilities, FMCG, and fintech sectors. They will lead the business alongside a revamped leadership team, including Crystal Hirschorn as Chief Technology Officer and Eloise Taysom as Chief Product Officer. Andy Cox assumes the role of Executive Chairman, leveraging his experience as Head of Energy Transition at global insurance firm Howden.
Alongside the leadership announcement, Zoa unveiled a new strategy to transform domestic energy experiences and accelerate the energy transition by 'Bringing Electrification Home'. Zoa’s platform connects all electrified devices into a single home view, enabling consumers to control their energy use, manage solar panels, batteries, EVs, and other devices, potentially saving hundreds of pounds per year.
Supported by advanced AI technologies, Zoa’s cloud-based, end-to-end platform is brand agnostic, allowing seamless integration of energy assets across homes. This capability helps energy suppliers accelerate electrification from early adopters to the mass market, a critical step in global decarbonisation.
Zoa combines the innovation of a start-up with robust technical capabilities and data from its work with Bulb. Its 40-strong technology team is enterprise-ready, having successfully migrated over 1.5 million customers from Bulb to Octopus in under six months last year.
Zoa has rapidly grown since its inception 18 months ago and expects to announce several important milestones soon, including first contracts.
Tom Fraine, co-CEO of Zoa, said: "Today is an important milestone for our business and we’re excited to not only announce our brilliant new leadership team, but also reveal the strategy we’ve been working on in recent months.
“Too often, consumers’ energy journey is painted as an either-or; be environmentally conscious or save money. Zoa’s platform shows that this doesn't need to be the case. We help people manage their clean energy systems, save money, and accelerate the energy transition simultaneously. Crucially our domestic electrification platform is AI-powered, lifting the burden of actively managing energy devices through automation, and making the whole experience simple and accessible for everyone.”
Sara Brooks, co-CEO of Zoa, said: “Electrification is the next problem for our industry to solve. We’re committed to working with energy suppliers and technology providers to create innovative solutions, which fundamentally transform the customers’ energy experience. With a team of 50 people committed to decarbonising homes, our message is that we are enterprise ready and can work with suppliers to quickly and effectively scale our electrification solutions to build stronger relationships with their customers.”
Zoa’s co-CEOs bring significant experience to the business.
Sara is a recognised operational leader with over two decades’ experience building commercial teams in hypergrowth B2B SaaS and fintech across Europe and the US with Meltwater and Pleo. Having seen first-hand the transformations within cloud, big data, AI and fintech, she now brings that experience to the energy industry.
Tom has held senior leadership positions at a range of companies including Innocent Drinks, Workify and the Cabinet Office. He transferred to Zoa from Bulb where he spent four years shaping and executing the business’ global workforce strategy.
