Stix Mindfulness reveal results of study for Mental Health Awareness Week

Stix Mindfulness, a provider of interactive wellbeing products for children, announces the results of a recent research study showing the positive impact of Stix Mindfulness Remotes on children's mood. The study, conducted over four weeks, involved eight children and was conducted in partnership with Brunel University London.

The Stix Remotes offer interactive mindfulness activities that are designed to help children develop a range of skills, including concentration, focus, and emotional regulation. They have already received positive feedback from parents and educators who have used the product with children. The activities, co-developed with psychologists at Brunel University, involve four key mindfulness principles; mindfulness of the body, breath, thoughts and feelings, and the heart (compassion, love, kindness). Children in the study practiced three different activities each week from each category.

The children who participated in the study reported feeling motivated to complete each training session and experienced a boost in their mood. Specifically, 86% of the children stated that the training helped them to some extent, with the vast majority feeling "calm," "relaxed," and "happier and less stressed.” Additionally, the study found that the Stix Mindfulness Remotes resulted in a slight decrease in total anxiety and depression scores for six out of seven children who provided data.

The Stix Mindfulness Remotes also helped children develop coping skills to manage stressful situations, with many using breathing techniques learned through the training to calm themselves when upset or angry with friends and family members. The favourite activity reported by the children was 'Balance', with other enjoyable activities including 'Ball of light', 'Surfing', and 'Balloon arms'.

100% of children who participated in the study said they would recommend the training to a friend or family member, describing it as "fun and relaxing," "nice and calming," and helpful during rough times, such as SATs exams, and to reduce anger. Furthermore, the majority of the children expressed a desire to continue using the Stix Mindfulness Remotes and continue training without any encouragement.

Whilst the sample size is small, the study provides promising results suggesting the Stix activities have a positive impact on children's wellbeing, and can help them develop healthy coping strategies," said Liam Murphy, Co-founder of Stix. “We can’t wait to take this pilot study a step further in a full clinical trial to show the benefits of our product.

Having launched their product to the market in February 2023, Stix Mindfulness are excited to continue developing their mindfulness content and expand their reach to support children's mental health across the UK.
