"In LaLiga, AI is used for everything and helps make decisions, but it will always lack the human factor", explains Javier Tebas at South Summit Madrid 2023.

South Summit, co-organised by IE University and with the institutional support of Spain Up Nation, the Community of Madrid and Madrid City Council, as well as Mutua Madrileña, Google for Startups, BBVA Spark, Endesa, Toptal, Wayra - Telefónica Innovation and Banco Sabadell's BStartup, continued its first day this afternoon with a series of talks and debates focused on AI, in which Javier Tebas, president of LaLiga, gave a noteworthy talk.

"In LaLiga, AI is used for everything and helps make decisions, but it will always lack the human factor". This is how Tebas assessed the irruption of new technologies in sports. "AI is used to define match schedules based on spectators, team strategies, advertising audience controls and even injury prevention," he added.

Deep Tech and Artificial Intelligence were also featured in the talk held by Padmasree Warrior, founder, president, and CEO of Fable, and Ikhlaq Sidhu from IE University. Warrior, who participated remotely, disclosed that "there are so many problems in the world, such as climate change, health technology, accessibility to healthcare or water supply, that it is the perfect time to create new ways to address these complex issues. The focus should be on conflict resolution rather than product promotion”.

Abraham López Lee, CEO and co-founder of Correcto, gave the talk 'The Entrepreneur Textbook: Innovative Learnings', in which he shared his top tips for entrepreneurship, among which the following stood out: "Don’t make decisions alone. Surround yourself with good partners, consult them, and listen to them. The more people a leader has around them, the better. It is not always the boss who has the best ideas”.

Another highlight of the afternoon was presented by Thibault Tallieu, Marketing Director of EODev, who presented a zero-emission generator set powered by renewable hydrogen instead of diesel. Endesa will test the electro-hydrogen unit in its distribution network as part of the Enel Group's Net Zero strategy, which aims to eliminate the emissions inherent in the electricity distribution network infrastructure to make progress in the energy transition.

Finally, Sergio Furio, founder, and CEO of the Brazilian unicorn Creditas, took part in the discussion panel "LATAM: The Global Driver for Innovation", in which he highlighted the potential of Latin America as a hub for innovation and entrepreneurship. "When I started the business, I realised that there was no ecosystem. We had to start over and fix the most basic things in the market. Now we have a better market in Latam. This is easy to see with so much new talent and so many entrepreneurs”.
