Greenpixie raises £4.7M to cut Cloud and AI waste

Greenpixie has closed a £4.7 million pre-Series A round to help some of the world’s largest companies identify and eliminate wasted Cloud spending, as surging demand for AI infrastructure puts pressure on energy budgets and sustainability targets. Greenpixie provides software tools to help enterprises track and reduce the environmental and financial cost of their Cloud and AI usage.

The funding round was led by VERBUND X Ventures, with participation Octopus Ventures, Armajaro Holdings, and Green Angel Ventures.

The raise comes as data centres face intensifying scrutiny over their energy footprint. According to the International Data Center Authority, data centres account for up to 6% of electricity consumption in both the UK and the US, which is expected to climb sharply as AI adoption accelerates across industries. The scale of waste within existing Cloud infrastructure is also striking. Research from Flexera estimates that around 29% of enterprise Cloud use is wasted each year, largely due to a lack of visibility for the IT decision-makers responsible for managing it. Global Cloud spending is projected to exceed $1 trillion in the near term, making inefficiency a significant financial as well as environmental problem.

Greenpixie’s platform integrates with major Cloud providers and uses proprietary technology to help IT teams identify so-called ‘zombie’ resources – inactive or underused services silently consuming energy and budget. The software also helps businesses select lower-carbon Cloud regions and optimise their use of AI models.

Greenpixie claims to already work with Fortune 1000 clients including Mastercard, where it has delivered savings across carbon, water, and cost.

The startup has attracted attention beyond the private sector. Greenpixie holds a contract with the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology to monitor the climate footprint of the GOV.UK One Login service – tracking the energy and water consumption required to power its servers. The work puts the startup at the heart of the government’s own push to make digital public services more sustainable.

That profile appears to be growing. Around a month before the funding announcement, Mary Creagh CBE MP, Minister for Nature and Circular Economy, name-checked Greenpixie as an example of UK businesses driving digital sustainability.

“Efficient use of Cloud and AI is possible when the right culture and tooling is embraced,” explained Co-Founder and CEO, Greenpixie. “This funding will enable us to accelerate our mission and continue our global reach in these pivotal times.”

For lead investor VERBUND, the deal reflects confidence in the commercial opportunity. “Greenpixie addresses a structural customer problem in a high-growth market,” said Michael Strugl, CEO of VERBUND AG. “The rapid validation among international customers and the savings achieved underscore the solution’s scaling potential.”
