Tobias Hauser joins Limbic as Head of Computational Psychiatry
Tobias Hauser joins Limbic as its Head of Computational Psychiatry.
Hauser has worked at the intersection of psychiatry, neuroscience and artificial intelligence and is one of the leaders in the field of cognitive neuroscience and computational psychiatry.
He joins Limbic with a PhD in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (Zurich, Switzerland) and experience heading up Development Computational Psychiatry at University College London, where he has led the Developmental Computational Psychiatry group since 2018.
At Limbic, Hauser will be working on a variety of projects in the realm of machine learning and mental health. Hauser will be bringing his cutting-edge research expertise in the space to a real world setting, with a focus on building solutions that see patients assessed with yet more scientific rigour, which in turn leads to longer lasting results.
Hauser’s appointment comes in a period of rapid growth for Limbic, which doubled its team in the past six months and will continue to hire throughout 2022.
Through its carefully crafted AI platform, Limbic offers access to psychological therapy in two key ways. The first, Limbic Access, uses AI to revolutionise the self-referral process. It sees significantly higher completion rates than traditional forms of self referral, and helps overburdened healthcare systems by unlocking service providers’ time to focus on delivering therapy. This therapy itself has the potential to be yet more tailored and effective thanks to the insights gathered at the triaging stage.
The second, Limbic Care - a virtual therapist - provides immediate mental health support whilst patients wait to receive treatment from a clinician. Patients can also receive support via Limbic Care during therapy and after their therapy course is complete, helping to amplify the treatment.
Between October - December in 2021 alone, Limbic helped over 30,000 patients to access care whilst freeing up more than 9,000 clinical hours, across healthcare providers in the UK.
Tobias Hauser, Head of Computational Psychiatry at Limbic, said: “I’m delighted to be joining Limbic - the work they’ve done to date, and the impact it's already had on improving access to psychological therapies, made for an irresistible opportunity.
“A key focus for me will be on marrying machine learning with mental health to improve the pathway to therapy and ensure that patients receive even better support.
“Having been in the academic space for a while, I’ve seen first hand the impact it can have on businesses, and, in turn, people's lives. I’m so excited to bring my expertise to the hugely talented Limbic team.”
Ross Harper, CEO and Co-founder at Limbic, added: “In Tobias, we are joined by an expert in the field of computational psychiatry. He will massively accelerate our mission to improve access to psychological therapy, at a time when demand is higher than ever before. We’re proud to be leading the way for AI in mental health, and look forward to working with Tobias as we safely bring the latest technologies to patients and clinicians around the UK”
