TfL and Plexal partner to tap into emerging technologies
Transport for London (TfL) has appointed Plexal, the innovation and growth company founded by Delancey, as an Innovation Operation Supplier for a multi-year partnership.
This will see Plexal lean into its focus on achieving the potential of emerging technology through strategic collaboration and support the TfL innovation team with insights and resources to drive product development and transformation across the transport network.
Plexal has been selected for its expertise in solving society’s most pressing problems by closing the gap between organisations and accelerating access to novel startup solutions, leading a consortium that includes Sopra Steria, which will leverage its transport, consulting and digital transformation expertise. As such, TfL will receive support across key areas, including:
- Assessment of emerging technologies based on key themes to determine their potential impact
- Scouting innovators with effective solutions to TfL problems
- Running trials with startups to see how they work in the TfL environment
- Supporting product commercialisation and how they can generate revenue alongside solving pain points
Andrew Roughan, CEO at Plexal, says: “Mobility has been a focus at Plexal since launch, shortly after which we collaborated with TfL on the London RoadLab in 2018. Given the evolution of technology in the transport sector, it’s incredibly exciting to work with the organisation again as its Innovation Operation Supplier.
“The startup ecosystem has changed dramatically since our first collaboration with TfL and there’s a wealth of new solutions being developed in line with advancing technologies. Having supported the growth of more than 1,200 businesses across public and private sector programmes, we know there’s an incredible amount of rich talent just waiting to be unearthed and look forward to helping TfL access new innovations and overcome challenges, creating an even better experience for its customers and staff.”
