Launch of London AI Hub to create a global epicentre of AI innovation
Tech Nation (part of Founders Forum Group), Europe’s AI group Merantix, and Onfido Founder Husayn Kassai, have announced the launch of the London AI Hub, in partnership with Techspace.
Located in Farringdon, London and launching in early 2025, the London AI Hub will be an epicentre of collaboration and innovation for the UK’s thriving Artificial Intelligence sector.
London has a strong history as an innovation hotspot and an existing reputation as a global fintech hub. Now, inspired by Station F in Paris, Shack15 in San Francisco, and Merantix AI Campus in Berlin, the London AI Hub aims to establish London as the AI capital of the world by supporting the city’s rapidly growing AI ecosystem and nurturing its wealth of top AI minds and talent.
With more than 1,300 AI-focused companies calling London home and a 360,000-strong UK-wide AI workforce, the Hub will provide a physical focal point for the sector, providing co-working and collaboration space for AI native businesses along with an extensive calendar of events.
AI companies will be moving in and events will start from February to convene the industry-leading startups and innovators shaping the future of AI from London and across the UK.
Occupying the second floor of a newly redeveloped 80,000-square-foot Techspace location on Goswell Road, the Hub will provide an inclusive space for diverse ideas and voices, promote collaboration towards responsible AI advancement, and foster innovation, social impact and economic growth.
The Hub’s launch event will bring together leading AI entrepreneurs, academics, investors and policymakers. The Hub will operate independently and will be entirely funded by sponsorships and donations, having been seed funded with a founding donation from Husayn Kassai, Founder of Onfido and Quench.ai.
Carolyn Dawson, CEO of Founders Forum Group, said: “The London AI Hub marks a huge step for both London and the UK in shaping the future of AI. This landmark space will empower and mobilise the UK’s AI community to ensure the UK remains a leading innovator on the global tech stage.”
Husayn Kassai, Founder of Onfido and Quench.ai, added: “A decade ago, Level39 brought startups, policy makers and a rich programme of events and networking together to establish London as the FinTech capital of the world. Now is the time to replicate and build on that for AI.”
Janette Wiget, Management Board Member at Merantix, commented: “Large-scale, long-term AI innovation thrives through active ecosystems, which require cross-disciplinary collaboration and communities, open dialogue, and the removal of silos. We’ve seen from initiatives like the Merantix AI Campus in Berlin and the AI House in Davos that physical spaces attract leading AI stakeholders with a focus on impactful outcomes.”
Jonathan Bevan, CEO at Techspace, adds: “Techspace is proud to be the home of London’s AI Hub, aligning with the UK government’s vision for growth and innovation. Building on the legacy of Tech Nation, this initiative cements the UK’s commitments to leadership in AI.”
Peter Kyle, Science, Innovation, and Technology Secretary said: "The launch of the London AI Hub is another great step for the UK’s AI sector, which is continuing to lead on the global stage – with our new blueprint setting out how we will turbocharge the technology.
"As we continue to deliver on our Plan for Change, projects like this reinforce the UK’s position as the ideal environment for AI companies to scale, innovate, and shape the future of this technology worldwide."
