Latitude59 kicks off in Tallinn with a bold message for Europe

Estonia's most international startup and technology conference, Latitude59, kicked off today in Tallinn and was officially opened by President Alar Karis. In his opening speech, he emphasised that digital innovation plays a vital role in shaping a stronger and more resilient Europe.

The 13th edition of Latitude59 in Tallinn, Estonia, has begun, bringing together more than 3,500 people, including over 900 startup representatives and over 20 national delegations. Nearly 700 investors are participating this year. In total, there are participants from more than 70 different countries worldwide.

The main topics of this year's conference are Perspective and Integrity.

“More than ever, we need people who are willing to show up boldly, who walk the walk, and who will not stay silent. We also need perspective. The perspective of different viewpoints. It is this diversity of perspectives that makes us rich and allows us to see outside of our own bubble,” said Liisi Org, CEO of Latitude59.

She also emphasised that this year at Latitude59, defence is not just a topic. “It’s a signal. A signal that Europe’s innovation ecosystems are waking up to a new kind of scale. Together with our partners, we’re opening the conversation on what it means to fund, build, and scale the technologies that will shape our shared future - with courage, care, and responsibility."

In his opening remarks, President Karis emphasised that the wise use of data can lead to smarter public decision-making, automate processes, and deliver better outcomes for people. “This is not about giving up our privacy. It is about being smart, secure, and respectful of our rights as we modernise the way we govern.  And while we imagine how technology can improve our daily lives, let us also ask: how can technology be used to increase our sense of security? How can digital innovation contribute to a stronger, more resilient Europe?” he said.

Over the course of two days, 179 speakers will be on stage at Latitude59.

One of the standout sessions at this year’s Latitude59 will be a fireside chat featuring Boyan Slat, founder and CEO of The Ocean Cleanup, and Markus Villig, founder of Estonian unicorn Bolt. Latitude59's Bold Stage this year will also feature renowned British urban strategist and creative city concept developer Charles Landry alongside investor Taavet Hinrikus. In addition to discussing how creativity and innovation benefit urban development, details about a unique future hub being created in Estonia will be revealed.

Latitude59 is taking place for the 13th time from May 21–23 at Kultuurikatel in Tallinn. It is the most international and influential startup and tech conference in the Baltics and New Nordics, bringing together startups, investors, and ecosystem builders from across the globe.
