Lab designed to accelerate net-zero technologies opened by Prosemino

Prosemino, a venture builder dedicated to developing startups that address the net-zero challenge, has announced the opening of a 2,500 sq ft lab at British Land and AustralianSuper’s Canada Water campus. Supported by a developer and in partnership with Energy Revolution Ventures, Prosemino is pioneering a new approach to creating net-zero technologies.

In response to urgent calls for increased renewable energy efforts, as highlighted by the CCC’s progress report to Parliament, Prosemino’s new lab aims to accelerate renewable energy generation in Britain. Prosemino's programme takes technologies from concept to seed investment in just 18 months, providing the necessary boost to meet net-zero goals.

This lab, the first of its kind for energy transition startups, is equipped with state-of-the-art technical equipment essential for turning innovative ideas into reality. While Prosemino already operates in Hackney Wick, the expansion to Canada Water marks its first dedicated wet lab, enabling support for startups requiring specialised wet chemistry capabilities. The facility features advanced equipment for battery cycling, electrochemical testing, materials synthesis, and characterisation, with an infrastructure investment exceeding £500,000.

Gyen Ming Angel, Director of Venture Building at Prosemino, added: “The opening of this labspace is the culmination of years of dedication and innovation from the Prosemino team, alongside the invaluable backing from British Land. The access to specialised facilities, meeting rooms, breakout spaces, chemical waste management combined with Prosemino’s venture building support makes this the only lab of it’s kind in the world. It is a game-changer for our early-stage companies that are genuinely looking to change the world. At Prosemino we solve one of the biggest challenges facing founders of clean energy ventures in their earliest stages – giving them their own R&D facilities, investment and support to get going from day one. We are looking forward to welcoming more startups into the Prosemino family and supporting them in becoming giants of their field.”

Michael Wiseman, Head of Workspace Leasing and Science and Technology at British Land, said: “We are thrilled to welcome Prosemino to Canada Water, marking a significant milestone in our mission to establish a world-class clean and green tech hub. By clustering like minded businesses in this area of central London, we aim to cultivate a dynamic ecosystem of innovative startups. Paper Yard, with its state of the art wet and dry labs within a purpose built modular campus, offers the ideal environment for ambitious businesses to thrive. We are confident that Prosemino will not only flourish in their new home but also grow alongside us as our Canada Water development expands over the next decade.”

Prosemino will support three to four ventures simultaneously, providing hands-on expertise in scientific, engineering, legal, and business areas. This comprehensive support spans from experimental development and scaleup to business planning, financial accounting, and securing investment. Startups will also benefit from access to Prosemino’s extensive global network, which includes partners, customers, and potential investors.

Prosemino's first graduate, Oort Energy, secured £6 million in seed funding, showcasing the programme's effectiveness. Another startup, Sention Technologies Limited, is close to completing its development phase. Additionally, Prosemino has led the venture building of Redoxion in collaboration with 24M, a US battery company and MIT spinout. This partnership enabled Redoxion to start work immediately using existing lab equipment, avoiding the usual six-month delay for battery cyclers.
